Based from our Sittingbourne office and reporting to the Contracts Manager, you will manage a portfolio of Southern Water projects from initial survey and planning through to procurement, installation, commissioning and handover.
You will take responsibility for the safe, efficient and profitable delivery of multi-disciplinary projects, coordinating MKE engineers, Site Managers, subcontractors, suppliers and client stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
The role will involve regular travel to sites across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the wider South East.
Key Responsibilities
Manage multiple electrical, mechanical and civil engineering projects across Southern Water wastewater assets.
Deliver projects ranging from smaller reactive and refurbishment works through to capital schemes valued up to £2 million.
Lead projects from survey, design development and procurement through installation, testing, commissioning and handover.
Coordinate Site Managers, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and specialist service providers.
Prepare and manage project programmes, cost plans, budgets, procurement schedules and resource plans.
Monitor project profitability, forecasts, variations, valuations and commercial performance with the Contracts Manager.
Ensure all projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
Prepare, review and manage RAMS, construction phase plans, project programmes, technical submissions, commissioning records and handover documentation.
Attend site surveys, design reviews, client meetings, progress meetings, ALM meetings and project-planning sessions.
Maintain compliance with MKE and Southern Water SHEQ procedures, CDM requirements, permit systems and site rules.
Manage risk, identify programme constraints and implement practical solutions to maintain project delivery.
Coordinate commissioning activities and ensure all testing, certification and operational handover requirements are completed.
Build strong working relationships with Southern Water project teams, operations teams, subcontractors and the wider MKE business.
What We Are Looking For
Proven experience as a Project Manager within water, wastewater, utilities, industrial engineering, civil engineering or M&E contracting.
Strong technical understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering works, with awareness of civil engineering interfaces.
Experience delivering multi-disciplinary projects from planning through to commissioning and handover.
Ability to manage several projects at different stages of delivery.
Strong commercial awareness, including budget control, procurement, variations and project forecasting.
A sound understanding of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality requirements.
Experience working under CDM regulations and managing contractors, site teams and specialist subcontractors.
Excellent planning, leadership and communication skills.
Ability to work directly with clients and represent MKE professionally on operational wastewater sites.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and project-reporting systems.
Experience using Microsoft Project or other programme-management software would be beneficial.
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
Experience within one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
Wastewater-treatment works and pumping stations.
Pumps, blowers, screens, screw pumps, penstocks, valves, pipework and rotating equipment.
MCCs, PLCs, instrumentation, SCADA, electrical distribution and variable-speed drives.
Civil modifications, structural works, access platforms, concrete works and drainage.
Confined-space operations, lifting operations, cranes and specialist access.
Southern Water, Thames Water or other UK water-utility framework experience.
