About the role
True North designs and builds high-quality outdoor saunas for residential and commercial customers.
We are looking for a reliable and skilled carpenter or joiner to support our team with sauna builds and installations. This is initially a self-employed position for two days per week, with the potential for additional work and a permanent role as the business grows.
Main responsibilities
You will assist with all aspects of the build and installation process, including:
- Constructing timber frames and sauna components
- Measuring, cutting and fitting timber accurately
- Working with a range of building materials (including wood, metal, tiles)
- Installing cladding, internal finishes, seating and trims
- Preparing materials and sections for installation
- Loading, unloading and moving materials safely
- Supporting installations at residential and commercial sites
- Working from drawings, measurements and build specifications
- Maintaining a clean and safe workshop and working environment
- Helping to resolve practical issues during builds and installations
Skills and experience
Applicants should have:
- At least 2-3 years of professional carpentry, joinery or timber construction experience
- Experience with timber framing, cladding, first fix or second fix carpentry
- Confidence using handheld power tools and workshop machinery
- Strong measuring, cutting and finishing skills
- Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of their work
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- A reliable and practical approach to work
- A full UK driving licence
Previous sauna-building experience is not required, as training on our build methods will be provided.
Desirable
The following would be beneficial but are not essential:
- NVQ Level 2 or above in Carpentry and Joinery
- City & Guilds qualification or recognised carpentry apprenticeship
- Experience building garden rooms, timber structures or outdoor buildings
- Experience working with high-quality internal timber finishes
- A valid CSCS card
- Your own van
Working hours
The role will initially be for 2 days per week. Working hours will either be 7:30am - 4:00pm or 8:30am - 5:00pm, with a one-hour break. Hours may occasionally vary depending on installation locations and travel requirements.
Self-employed requirements
Applicants must be registered as self-employed and able to provide invoices for completed work.
