Job Summary
KLR Rail & Construction Services Ltd is seeking experienced Civil Operatives to join our Civil Engineering team, working on railway infrastructure projects across the UK. This role involves general civils work on and around the track, often during possessions or night shifts, supporting a range of construction, drainage, and groundworks activities.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out general civils duties including groundworks, drainage, concreting, and formation work
- Assist with the installation and repair of track infrastructure, culverts, and embankments
- Work safely within possessions, following all railway safety procedures
- Operate hand tools and small plant/machinery as required
- Support skilled trades and machine operators on site
- Load, unload, and move materials around site
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised worksite
- Report hazards, near misses, or safety concerns to site supervisors
Experience:
- Proven experience as a civil operative/labourer, ideally within a railway or construction environment
- Experience working within possessions or a live rail environment (desirable)
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Experience working night shifts (desirable)
- Team player with a strong understanding of on-site health & safety
Requirements:
- Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) certificate — essential
- Full UK driving licence (desirable)
- CSCS card (or equivalent)
- Ability to work night shifts and within possessions
- Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces (as required)
- Good understanding of health & safety procedures on and around the railway
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable:
- SSSTS/SMSTS
- Manual Handling / Abrasive Wheels certificates
- Plant operator tickets (e.g. dumper, excavator)
- Previous experience on Network Rail or rail infrastructure contracts
Pay: From £21.50 per hour
