South Staffs Water supplies a population of nearly 1.3 million. The area of supply stretches from the edge of Ashbourne in the North, to Halesowen in the South, and from Burton-on-Trent in the East, to Kinver in the West.
The Role:
Our Leakage Department plays a vital role in helping reduce water leakage across the network, supporting operational performance and customer service delivery.
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Leakage Technician to join our experienced team and contribute towards achieving leakage detection targets. This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of water distribution networks and a proactive, field-based approach to problem-solving.
This is a permanent night shift role, working 4 x 10-hour shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out field-based leakage detection activities across allocated District Metered Areas (DMAs)
- Detect and localise leakage effectively, utilising specific leakage detection equipment
- Undertake valve operations, step testing, DMA integrity testing, and pressure, flow, or noise logging to support network optimisation
- Accurately complete paperwork, capture operational data, and provide information to support planning and decision making
- Manage customer interactions professionally, addressing concerns calmly and proactively managing expectations
- Adapt to new technologies and contribute ideas to improve team performance and operational effectiveness
What You’ll Need:
- Good understanding of water distribution networks and leakage detection processes
- Excellent communication and customer interaction skills
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
- Good PC literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a field-based team environment
- Full UK driving licence
