ROLE SUMMARY
We have spent the last 3 years successfully building and running our internal carbon reporting framework. We are looking for an analytical professional with a solid foundation in carbon accounting to take over our data pipelines, execute our emissions calculations, and streamline our reporting cycles.
Because our core framework is already established, this is a mid-level role for someone who can execute data compilation immediately, master our system within a 6-month window, and transition into fully owning and managing our reporting obligations independently.
Grounded strictly in the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, your work will ensure full alignment with UK compliance frameworks like SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting) and PPN 06/21. You will also have a keen interest in leveraging modern tools—including foundational applications of AI and automation for data sanitisation—to scale our data processing efficiency. You will work closely with our team from a coworking space in the Bromsgrove area 2–3 days a week to ensure a collaborative ramp-up, with the flexibility to work from home on the remaining days.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Ingestion & Management (Months 1–3): Take ownership of our existing data collection workflows. Clean, validate, structure, and format raw operational and supply chain data (electricity, gas, business travel, fuel logs) in strict accordance with the GHG Protocol boundary rules and reporting scopes (Scope 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3 categories).
AI-Assisted Data Sanitisation: Explore, test, and implement modern workflows—including AI-driven data parsing, script automation, or intelligent data cleaning tools—to streamline how we ingest and sanitize messy multi-source utility and supply chain datasets in the background.
Carbon Calculations & Compliance: Apply recognized emission factors (such as the UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting / DEFRA) alongside GHG Protocol calculation methodologies. Ensure data readiness for annual SECR compliance and alignment with public sector procurement standards like PPN 06/21. Proactively flag data gaps, anomalies, and variance spikes.
Process Ownership & Transition (Months 3–6): Rapidly learn our established reporting architecture through close collaboration in our Bromsgrove hub, identify optimization opportunities, and transition from execution support to full procedural ownership.
Autonomous Delivery: Move toward managing the annual carbon reporting cycle independently—auditing your own outputs, preparing audit-ready documentation for UK compliance, and presenting clear insights to leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS & BACKGROUND
Location Requirement: Must reside within a 20-mile radius of Bromsgrove and be comfortable commuting to a local coworking space 2–3 days per week for collaborative working.
Experience: 2 to 4 years of professional experience working in a data-heavy corporate environment, sustainability consulting, financial/environmental auditing, or carbon accounting.
Core Technical Knowledge: A working, practical understanding of the GHG Protocol (Corporate Standard, Scope 2 Guidance, and Corporate Value Chain Scope 3 Standard) and how it applies to UK regulatory reporting like SECR.
Tech-Forward Mindset (AI & Analytics): Advanced Excel proficiency is non-negotiable, coupled with a genuine curiosity and foundational interest in using emerging technologies, automation, and AI-assisted tools to automate repetitive data sanitisation tasks.
Problem-Solving Mindset: A detail-oriented professional who doesn't just process numbers mechanically, but immediately questions discrepancies, catches errors, and looks for innovative ways to improve efficiency.
Certifications (Advantageous, not essential): Any formal training relating directly to the GHG Protocol, SECR compliance, or data analytics/automation is welcome, but a rigorous, data-driven analytical background is paramount.
