This position puts you at the centre of environmental and radiological decision making, shaping how standards are applied in real world operations. You will be a trusted expert across the site, translating complex requirements into practical actions that people can follow. It is a varied role with real impact, where your judgement directly affects how the site remains safe, compliant, and efficient.
What will you be doing
You will take ownership of environmental and radiological advice across the site, ensuring activities are delivered in line with legal and company requirements. This goes beyond monitoring compliance. You will actively shape how standards are applied day to day, helping teams make better decisions, manage risk, and deliver work safely and responsibly.
Working closely with operations, engineering, and safety teams, you will contribute to key assessments, support environmental strategy, and ensure monitoring and reporting arrangements remain robust and effective. You will also play a key role in improving site performance, identifying opportunities to reduce waste, streamline processes, and strengthen overall environmental outcomes, including oversight of radiochemistry activities. You will do this within a 4 day working week, giving you the space to focus and maintain a better work life balance.
- Provide specialist advice on environmental protection and radioactive waste management
- Support environmental assessments, safety cases, and compliance activities
- Identify and drive practical improvements in environmental performance and waste reduction
- Build and maintain effective relationships with regulators and external bodies
Who are we looking for
Experience from a nuclear environment, with a strong understanding of environmental compliance, radiation protection, and radioactive waste, is key to this role. The ability to interpret regulatory requirements and turn them into clear, practical guidance for day-to-day operations is essential.
You may already be operating as a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA), Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA), or working towards a similar level. What matters most is the ability to apply knowledge in a real operational setting and engage confidently with both internal teams and regulators.
Strong influencing skills are important, along with the confidence to challenge when needed and communicate technical issues in a way that drives action. A practical mindset is essential, balancing high standards with the ability to operate both hands-on and at a more strategic level.
- Experience in radioactive waste management and/or radiation protection
- Background working in a nuclear environment or a closely related sector (for example medical radiological settings)
- Understanding of environmental regulations such as Environmental Permitting Regulations
- Experience interacting with or supporting regulatory bodies
