Carelux Support Services is a supported living service committed to providing person-centred support that enables individuals to live as independently as possible in their own homes and within their communities.
We are looking for a caring, reliable and motivated Support Worker to join our team. This role is suited to someone who understands that supported living is not about simply providing care, but about helping people live their own lives, in their own homes, with choice, dignity and independence.
Our service users' homes are their homes first. We expect our staff to respect this at all times and to work in a way that makes the environment as comfortable, welcoming and homely as possible. Staff should support individuals to have control over their routines, choices, activities and personal space, while providing the right level of encouragement and assistance.
About the Role
As a Support Worker, you will work closely with service users to understand their individual needs, preferences, routines and goals. You will provide practical and emotional support while encouraging independence and helping each person develop and maintain their skills.
Your role may include:
- Supporting service users with their daily routines and activities while encouraging them to do as much as possible for themselves.
- Providing support with personal care where this forms part of the individual's support plan, always maintaining dignity, privacy and choice.
- Supporting meal planning, food shopping, meal preparation and healthy eating.
- Supporting service users to access the community, attend appointments, go shopping and take part in activities they enjoy.
- Encouraging independence with household tasks, budgeting, cooking, cleaning and other life skills.
- Supporting service users to develop confidence and learn new skills.
- Building positive, professional relationships based on trust, respect and consistency.
- Providing reassurance and emotional support when required.
- Supporting communication and helping individuals express their wishes, choices and preferences.
- Following individual support plans, risk assessments and agreed ways of working.
- Maintaining accurate and professional daily records, including support provided, activities, appointments and any relevant changes in presentation or wellbeing.
- Reporting and escalating concerns appropriately, including safeguarding, health and safety or changes in an individual's needs.
- Working effectively with colleagues, families, social care professionals and other relevant professionals.
Making the House Feel Like Home
At Carelux Support Services, we believe that supported living should feel like home.
Our staff are expected to respect the fact that service users live in their own homes. This means supporting them to make choices about their environment, routines, meals, activities and how they spend their time.
We want our homes to be comfortable, welcoming and reflective of the people who live there. Staff should contribute positively to the home environment without unnecessarily taking over tasks that the service user can safely do themselves.
The aim is to support, encourage and enable — not create unnecessary dependence.
Communication Skills
Good communication is essential to this role.
Experience with British Sign Language (BSL) would be an advantage, particularly where this supports effective communication with our service users. However, BSL experience is not essential for the right candidate.
We are happy to consider applicants who demonstrate a genuine willingness to learn BSL and develop their communication skills as part of their professional development.
We are particularly interested in people who are patient and understand that communication is not always verbal. The ability to listen, observe and recognise an individual's preferred way of communicating is important.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- Caring, patient and respectful.
- Reliable and responsible.
- Comfortable supporting people in their own homes.
- Able to promote independence rather than doing everything for the service user.
- A good communicator who can build positive professional relationships.
- Confident supporting individuals in the community.
- Willing to learn and develop new skills.
- Able to follow care/support plans, risk assessments and organisational procedures.
- Comfortable completing accurate daily records.
- Able to maintain professional boundaries.
- Flexible and able to respond appropriately to changing needs.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals.
Previous experience in supported living, social care, residential care, domiciliary care, education, youth work or another relevant support setting is desirable.
Why Join Carelux Support Services?
This is an opportunity to join a service where your work has a direct impact on people's everyday lives.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Make a genuine difference to the people you support.
- Help individuals develop greater independence and confidence.
- Build meaningful professional relationships.
- Develop your knowledge and practical support skills.
- Receive support to develop areas such as communication and BSL.
- Work as part of a team committed to providing respectful, person-centred support.
Most importantly, we want our staff to understand that every person we support has their own life, choices, preferences and ambitions. Our role is to provide the support that helps them achieve these while maintaining their dignity, independence and quality of life.
