This is a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist in Early Intervention in Psychosis (General Adult Psychiatry) that has become available following the departure of the previous substantive post holder after many years of service. The post is part-time. The successful candidate will be part of an active Consultant body and will join the Borough Consultants on call rota.
The COAST Team is part of the Croydon and Behavioural & Developmental Psychiatry Directorate within the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. COAST is the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service for Croydon and uses an assertive outreach model and receives referrals for the whole of the Borough. The service is an innovative multidisciplinary community team, serving clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds in Croydon who experience their first episode of psychosis and often have challenging and complex needs, including difficulties with engagement.
The post holder will provide clinical input and leadership for the team together with the other Consultants in the team. There will be a need to screen referrals, contribute to multidisciplinary assessments, and correspond with referrers, colleagues and other involved professionals in assessments and treatment of accepted patients. The post holder will have Responsible clinician responsibilities for their part of the caseload, they will conduct regular psychiatric reviews and contribute to care planning meetings of community patients under the care of the team. There will be a need to support inpatient colleagues when patients are admitted to the wards, write tribunal reports, and attend tribunals as required.
The post holder will be seeing patients at their clinic on a daily basis. The number of patients may vary but will be on average of 8 a week, including new patients, follow ups and emergencies. The rate of tribunals/managers hearings is around 1 every 6 weeks.
