Senior Quantity Surveyor
Salary: £70,000 – £75,000 + Bonus + Car Allowance
Location: Exeter, Devon
Working Pattern: Hybrid with Site Visits
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team, supporting the successful delivery of complex, high-value marine and civil engineering projects.
With over 30 years of industry expertise, the company is a well-established UK marine and civil engineering contractor delivering a diverse portfolio of works including sea walls, quay piling, dredging, flood defences, and inland waterways. The organisation holds full accreditation to ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards and is registered with CHAS and RISQS.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cost planning, forecasting, and value reporting across allocated projects.
- Prepare and manage tenders, bills of quantities, variations, and claims.
- Negotiate commercial matters with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Monitor cost/value reconciliations (CVRs), cash flow, and margin performance.
- Oversee procurement and subcontractor management, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
- Provide commercial support and guidance to project teams.
- Mentor and support the development of junior quantity surveyors.
- Ensure accurate valuations, commercial governance, and timely agreement of final accounts.
Essential Criteria
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role within civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong expertise in cost management, CVRs, forecasting, and contract administration.
- Sound knowledge of UK construction contracts (NEC, JCT, or similar).
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
Desirable Experience
- Membership of MRICS or CICES (or working towards).
- Experience in marine, coastal, or flood defence projects.
- Familiarity with marine operations such as piling, plant hire, or specialist subcontractors.
- Knowledge of digital commercial systems and reporting tools.
