We're now looking for an experienced Warehouse Supervisor to join our team and take responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of warehouse operations within our licensed pharmaceutical distribution facility.
The Role
As a Warehouse Supervisor, you'll oversee receiving, order fulfilment, equipment operations, outbound operations and regulated supply activities, ensuring all areas operate safely, accurately and efficiently.
Working within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment, you'll ensure operations remain fully compliant with Good Distribution Practice (GDP), MHRA requirements and the site's Quality Management System.
You'll also be responsible for coordinating resources, monitoring performance, maintaining stock and product integrity, supporting audits and developing the warehouse team.
Roles and Responsibilities
As our Warehouse Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing daily supervision and coordination across all warehouse functions, including receiving, order fulfilment, equipment operations, outbound operations and regulated supply.
- Allocating labour and resources across departments to meet daily throughput requirements, Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and customer delivery deadlines, adjusting staffing during peak periods, absence and holiday cover.
- Conducting daily briefings and toolbox talks to communicate operational priorities, safety alerts, quality notices and performance targets.
- Monitoring and reporting departmental KPIs, including accuracy, productivity, on-time delivery, damages and near misses, and using these to drive continuous improvement.
- Verifying and processing incoming stock accurately, including purchase orders, batch numbers, expiry dates and certificates of conformity, escalating quarantine or rejected products to Quality Assurance where required.
- Managing temperature-controlled and time-critical deliveries within required timescales while ensuring GDP-compliant documentation is maintained.
- Supervising picking and packing activities to ensure accurate and timely order fulfilment, appropriate application of FEFO and protection of product integrity, including cold-chain products.
- Ensuring warehouse handling equipment is operated safely by appropriately trained and licensed colleagues, with pre-use checks, maintenance records and licences kept up to date.
- Overseeing vehicle preparation and outbound documentation, resolving delivery queries and ensuring returns and failed deliveries are processed in accordance with GDP requirements.
- Ensuring regulated supply activities comply with the site's Dealer's Licence (WDA) and MHRA/GDP requirements, including appropriate due diligence on trade customers and control of restricted product lines.
- Working closely with the Responsible Person (RP) and Quality Assurance team on regulated supply and wider compliance matters.
- Maintaining stock accuracy and temperature monitoring standards, investigating discrepancies, incidents and deviations and ensuring appropriate CAPA follow-up.
- Driving Health & Safety standards through risk assessments, incident investigations and the implementation of safe systems of work.
- Supporting internal, customer and MHRA audits and inspections.
- Leading, coaching and managing the warehouse team, including attendance, performance, training requirements and recruitment support.
What We're Looking For From You
We're looking for an experienced Warehouse Supervisor who combines strong operational leadership with a thorough understanding of working within a regulated warehouse or distribution environment.
Essential
- Proven supervisory experience within a warehouse or distribution environment, ideally within pharmaceuticals, healthcare or another highly regulated sector.
- Working knowledge of Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and MHRA regulatory requirements.
- Experience supervising multiple warehouse functions, such as receiving, picking and outbound operations.
- Strong understanding of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and stock control principles.
- Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe equipment operation.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively and meet tight deadlines.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and warehouse/inventory systems.
- Flexibility to provide support across other shifts and share responsibility for weekend overtime where required.
Desirable
- Experience operating within a licensed Dealer's Authorisation (WDA) environment.
- Equipment operator licence and/or an IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification.
- Experience of cold-chain or temperature-controlled logistics.
- Experience supporting MHRA or customer audits.
Working Conditions
This is a warehouse-based role involving time spent within ambient, chilled and/or cold-storage environments.
The role may require early starts, late finishes, weekend working or on-call availability to support extended or 24/7 operating requirements.
The position may also involve manual handling, the use of warehouse handling equipment and prolonged periods of standing or walking. Appropriate PPE, gowning and hygiene requirements must be followed when working within pharmaceutical storage areas.
