We are seeking a versatile, highly skilled, and safety-conscious individual to join our Facilities and Neighbourhood Services team as a Senior Maintenance Technician. In addition to undertaking a broad range of installation, maintenance, and repair tasks to support the upkeep of the Council’s buildings, equipment, and public assets, the post holder will take a leading role in organising daily workloads, prioritising maintenance requests, and coordinating the procurement of materials.
The Senior Maintenance Technician will support the Director of Estates, Assets & Operational Services in maintaining safe working practices across maintenance activities. The post holder will assist in implementing the Council's Health and Safety policies, undertake site-specific risk assessments where appropriate, identify hazards, and help ensure maintenance work is carried out safely and in accordance with relevant legislation and Council procedures.
This position would suit someone with extensive experience in a similar role who possesses strong practical DIY skills alongside the administrative, organisational, leadership capabilities required to manage maintenance operations effectively, across all council properties such as Play areas, The Civic building, Trowbridge museum and community centres.
This role may require the post holder to work some evenings and/or bank holiday weekends, for which time off in lieu may be taken in accordance with the needs of the Council.
Main responsibilities and duties include:
- Organise and prioritise the daily and weekly maintenance logs, ensuring response times are met and critical issues are addressed promptly.
- Source, order, and manage stock levels of materials, tools, and workshop supplies required for ongoing and upcoming jobs, ensuring best value for money in line with Council financial guidelines.
- Liaise directly with suppliers and specialist contractors to obtain quotes, schedule works, and oversee on-site delivery or compliance.
- Assist the Director in assessing maintenance requests and planning the resources, materials and timescales required to complete work efficiently.
- Support the Director in implementing safe systems of work for maintenance activities.
- Carry out minor repairs to Council equipment.
- Undertake basic vehicle maintenance and minor repairs.
- Maintain all tools, equipment, and workshop supplies to ensure readiness and safety.
