GENERAL MANAGER – THE HANGAR, BURTON UPON TRENT
Location: Burton upon Trent
Position: General Manager
Hours: Full Time – evenings and weekends required
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
ABOUT THE HANGAR
The Hangar isn’t your standard pub or bar.
We’re an entertainment-led venue in Burton upon Trent, combining a busy bar operation with activities and competitive socialising. We’re looking for an experienced, commercially driven General Manager who can take full ownership of the venue and push it to the next level.
This is a hands-on role for somebody who loves hospitality, knows how to build a great team and understands that a successful venue is about much more than simply opening the doors.
THE ROLE
As General Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation and performance of The Hangar.
You’ll be expected to run the venue as if it were your own business – driving sales, controlling costs, developing the team and constantly looking for opportunities to increase footfall and improve the customer experience.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the venue
- Recruiting, training, developing and motivating a high-performing team
- Creating rotas and controlling wage costs in line with sales
- Driving wet sales, activity bookings, parties, events and group bookings
- Building relationships with local businesses, clubs, societies and organisations
- Developing events and promotions that increase footfall
- Delivering consistently high standards of customer service
- Ensuring the venue is clean, safe and presented to an excellent standard
- Managing stock, ordering, deliveries, stocktakes and stock control
- Reducing wastage and protecting margins
- Monitoring sales, labour and other key performance figures
- Managing cash handling and ensuring company procedures are followed
- Dealing professionally with customer feedback and complaints
- Ensuring licensing objectives and all relevant legislation are followed
- Maintaining excellent health & safety and compliance standards
- Working closely with senior management to deliver budgets and targets
- Promoting the venue through local marketing and social media
- Taking ownership of the venue's overall reputation and performance
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We want a leader, not simply a duty manager.
You'll need to be confident making decisions, managing people and taking responsibility for the commercial performance of the business.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous General Manager, Deputy Manager or senior hospitality management experience
- Have experience running a busy pub, bar, entertainment or late-night venue
- Be commercially minded and understand sales, wages, margins and stock control
- Be confident managing and developing a team
- Have a strong personality and excellent leadership skills
- Be proactive rather than waiting to be told what needs doing
- Understand how to market a venue and generate local interest
- Be comfortable working evenings, weekends and key trading periods
- Have excellent standards and attention to detail
- Be passionate about hospitality and creating a great atmosphere
A Personal Licence would be advantageous.
WHAT WE WANT FROM OUR GENERAL MANAGER
We're looking for someone who walks into the building and immediately sees opportunities.

What events can we introduce?
How do we get customers coming back?
How can we increase bookings and spend per head?
How do we make The Hangar the place people choose for a night out in Burton?
If you're ambitious, energetic and want the freedom to make a real impact on a venue, we'd like to hear from you.
