The Cutting Garden Café is a busy, independent countryside café in Appleby Magna, and we’re looking for a part-time Food Preparation / Kitchen Team Member to join our growing team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who has a genuine interest in food and would like to develop their skills in a professional café kitchen.
We would particularly welcome applications from someone who:
* Has previous kitchen or food preparation experience
* Is training or studying to become a chef
* Has worked in a café, restaurant or catering environment
* Is an enthusiastic and capable cook looking to gain professional experience
* Has a genuine interest in good food and enjoys working with fresh ingredients
Formal chef qualifications aren’t essential if you have the right attitude, practical ability and enthusiasm to learn.
What you’ll be doing
Working alongside our café team, your role will include:
* Preparing fresh food for our daily menu
* Preparing ingredients and sandwich fillings
* Preparing salads and jacket potato fillings
* Food preparation for breakfasts and lunches
* Helping with our homemade cakes and baking where appropriate
* Preparing food for larger groups and catering orders
* Keeping the kitchen and food preparation areas clean, organised and well stocked
* Following food hygiene and safety procedures
* Working efficiently during busy service periods
* Helping with stock rotation and reducing food waste
* Supporting the wider café team when required
We serve fresh sourdough, homemade cakes, breakfasts, lunches, salads, jacket potatoes and seasonal specials, with a strong emphasis on quality ingredients and homemade food.
We also provide corporate lunches, group catering and private events, so there is an opportunity to gain experience across a variety of food preparation and catering situations.
The person we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who is:
Reliable Practical Enthusiastic Organised Clean & tidy A good team player
You need to be able to work calmly and efficiently when the café gets busy, have good attention to detail and take pride in the food you prepare.
Most importantly, we want someone who enjoys food and wants to learn.
Hours
This is a part-time position, with hours to be agreed depending on availability and the needs of the business.
There may be opportunities for additional hours during busy periods, weekends and events.
Experience in a professional kitchen is preferred, but attitude, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are equally important.
