Overview
An opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a growing SME main contractor based in Bristol. Operating across regional commercial, residential, healthcare, and refurbishment sectors (£250k to £5m project range), this role offers end-to-end commercial involvement. Working directly alongside a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will gain hands-on exposure to procurement, sub-contract management, cost value reconciliations (CVRs), and client valuations.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement & Enquiries: Prepare trade enquiry packages, analyse sub-contractor quotations, conduct scope checks, and assist with drafting sub-contract agreements (predominantly JCT and NEC forms).
- Sub-Contract Management: Review monthly sub-contractor payment applications, issue payless notifications where applicable, manage site variation requests, and assist with final account settlements.
- Commercial Reporting & CVRs: Maintain accurate cost recording systems, assist with monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), track Work in Progress (WIP), and assist with financial forecasting to completion.
- Valuations & Variations: Measure site progress alongside site managers, prepare main contract interim payment applications to clients, and price variations/compensation events.
- Site Operations Support: Attend weekly/monthly site meetings across South West project locations, tracking material orders, plant hire costs, and labor allocations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: HNC, HND, or BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (or currently studying part-time/day-release).
- Experience: Minimum 1–3 years of commercial experience within a regional contractor or sub-contractor environment.
- Contract Knowledge: Practical exposure to JCT Forms of Contract or NEC3/NEC4 Options.
- Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, strong numerical skills, and sound commercial awareness.
- Logistics: Full UK Driving Licence (required for site visits across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and South Wales).
Pay: £28,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
