The Role
As the Registered Home Manager, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, management and development of the home, ensuring exceptional care standards, regulatory compliance and positive experiences for every child living within the service.
Working closely with the Responsible Individual, you will lead and inspire your team, oversee safeguarding practices, maintain compliance with Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards, and ensure the home achieves outstanding outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing residential care team.
- Foster a positive, child-centred culture throughout the home.
- Manage staffing levels, rotas, recruitment, supervision and performance.
- Conduct regular team meetings, supervisions and appraisals.
- Promote continuous professional development and learning.
Safeguarding & Child-Centred Care
- Act as Designated Safeguarding Officer within the home.
- Ensure all safeguarding concerns are promptly identified, reported and effectively managed.
- Promote positive behaviour support and trauma-informed practice.
- Ensure children have up-to-date care, placement and support plans.
- Build strong partnerships with families, social workers, local authorities, education providers and external professionals.
Quality & Compliance
- Register with Ofsted as the Registered Manager.
- Ensure compliance with Children's Homes Regulations, Ofsted Quality Standards and safeguarding legislation.
- Maintain and review the Statement of Purpose, risk assessments and operational policies.
- Lead preparations for inspections and audits.
- Drive continuous improvement through quality assurance and performance monitoring.
Young People's Outcomes
- Champion education, independence skills and personal development.
- Promote meaningful activities, community engagement and recreation.
- Support children to maintain positive family and community relationships where appropriate.
- Create a warm, welcoming and nurturing home environment.
Operational & Financial Management
- Manage budgets effectively and responsibly.
- Monitor maintenance, health & safety and environmental standards.
- Maintain accurate records and regulatory documentation.
- Ensure effective administration and reporting processes.
What We're Looking For Essential Requirements
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a role relevant to residential childcare within the last 5 years.
- At least 1 year's experience managing or supervising care staff.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- Experience participating in Ofsted inspections.
- Excellent knowledge of Children's Homes Regulations, safeguarding and best practice.
- Strong leadership, organisation and communication skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Aged 21+ in line with regulatory requirements.
Desirable
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- Experience achieving Good or Outstanding Ofsted outcomes.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and therapeutic approaches.
