Technical Account Manager
RM Design & Engineering Ltd
Location: Southam, Warwickshire
Job type: Full-time, permanent
Salary: £40,040 to £50,024 depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus
No hard sell. No chasing orders at any cost. Just proper technical account management.
RM Design & Engineering Ltd is looking for a Technical Account Manager to take ownership of customer enquiries, quotations, quote follow-up and account development.
This is a new role, created to support the continued growth of the business and to free the Managing Director to spend more time on strategic leadership.
RMDE is not a standard subcontract machine shop. We work on technically demanding, low-volume, high-value engineering projects where quality, accuracy, communication and delivery matter.
Our work includes specialist engineering, composite tooling, thermoforming tooling, prototype components, fixtures, machining and technically challenging projects for sectors including defence, composites, thermoforming and motorsport.
Our reputation has been built around a simple philosophy:
QUALITY IS KING & DELIVERY RULES.
The Role
You will become the commercial link between RMDE’s customers, Production and the wider business.
You will manage enquiries from the moment they arrive, understand what the customer needs, prepare quotations within agreed authority levels, follow opportunities through, support order handover, keep customers informed and help develop repeat business.
This is not a traditional sales role.
It is about understanding technical requirements, asking the right questions, communicating honestly and helping customers trust RMDE with difficult engineering work.
What You Will Be Doing
You will be responsible for:
- Managing customer enquiries from first contact through to quote, order or close.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, quantities, materials, tolerances and delivery requirements.
- Preparing clear and accurate quotations within agreed authority levels.
- Following up quotations properly and keeping opportunities moving.
- Developing existing customer relationships.
- Identifying repeat work and future project opportunities.
- Working closely with Production before delivery commitments are made.
- Supporting smooth handover from quote to order.
- Keeping customer and quotation records accurate.
- Helping reduce the day-to-day commercial workload on the Managing Director.
What We Are Looking For
You will probably come from an engineering, manufacturing, estimating, technical sales support or account management background.
You do not need to know everything on day one, but you must be comfortable around engineering detail and willing to learn how RMDE prices, plans and delivers specialist work.
You will need to be able to:
- Read and understand engineering drawings.
- Ask sensible technical and commercial questions.
- Prepare, or develop into preparing, accurate estimates and quotations.
- Speak confidently with customers, engineers and production teams.
- Follow up properly without being pushy.
- Stay calm when priorities change.
- Be honest when something needs checking.
- Protect the customer relationship without making promises RMDE cannot keep.
Experience That Would Be Useful
Experience in any of the following would be helpful:
- Precision engineering
- CNC machining
- Toolmaking
- Composite tooling
- Thermoforming tooling
- Prototype engineering
- Specialist manufacturing
- Engineering estimating
- Technical account management
- Manufacturing customer support
- Defence, motorsport or advanced manufacturing supply chains
The Person We Want
We are looking for someone who is customer-focused, accurate, commercially aware, reliable, persistent, calm under pressure and good with people.
You must be comfortable asking questions, checking details properly and staying with the job until the customer, quote and handover are right.
We do not want someone who guesses, over promises, ignores detail or treats customer communication as someone else’s job.
What RMDE Offers
- A genuinely varied technical-commercial role.
- Interesting engineering work.
- A practical engineering business with high standards.
- Direct support from the Managing Director.
- A clear route to greater commercial responsibility.
- Competitive salary.
- Performance-related bonus.
- The chance to help shape an important new role in the business.
How to Apply
Please apply with your CV and a short note explaining why this role interests you.
We are especially interested in hearing from people who understand that good account management in engineering is not about sales patter.
It is about trust, accuracy, follow-up, honest communication and doing what you said you would do.
