The Art House is a unique creative café in the heart of Eastbourne, combining freshly prepared food with pottery painting, workshops, private events and a licensed bar. No two days are the same, and we’re looking for someone who thrives in a busy, hands-on environment.
This is a varied role, ideal for someone who enjoys cooking, working with people and getting involved in creative activities.
The Role
As our Workshop Lead & Café Cook, you’ll take responsibility for preparing our fresh lunch menu while also leading creative workshops, children’s parties and private events. You’ll be at the heart of the customer experience, ensuring every guest receives excellent food, warm hospitality and leaves having had a fantastic time.
You’ll work closely with our small, friendly team to help deliver everything from relaxed café lunches to evening events, creative workshops and celebrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve our fresh café menu to a high standard.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.
- Manage stock, food preparation and kitchen organisation.
- Deliver creative workshops for adults and children, including pottery painting and craft activities.
- Lead children’s birthday parties and holiday workshops.
- Welcome and engage with customers throughout their visit.
- Help set up and run private events, evening functions and creative experiences.
- Assist with bar service during events (training provided if required).
- Ensure every customer enjoys a friendly, professional and memorable experience.
- Work with the team to develop new workshop ideas and seasonal events.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about cooking and fresh food.
- Confident speaking to groups and leading activities.
- Friendly, enthusiastic and naturally great with customers.
- Calm under pressure and able to multitask.
- Organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Happy working in both the kitchen and front of house.
- Flexible to work weekdays, evenings and weekends.
Essential Skills
- Experience working in a café, restaurant or hospitality environment.
- Food preparation and cooking experience.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and safety.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Experience running workshops, classes or activities.
- Experience working with children.
- Barista or bar experience (training can be provided).
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
