Manages
Will build and lead own team over time, starting with recruiting an Accounts / Credit Controller
The Role
We're seeking an ACA- or ACCA-qualified accountant to take full, in-house technical ownership of the finance function across our group of companies — replacing our current external accountancy firm arrangement entirely. This includes VAT, month-end reporting, statutory accounts and corporation tax filings, and payroll. A significant early priority is a forensic-level review of the group's existing accounts: tracing, evidencing and correcting errors and misstatements left by a previous accountant, and completing an intercompany reconciliation and wind-down accounting project already underway. There is no external firm backstopping this role — you will own every technical decision directly, including any HMRC correspondence, so genuine post-qualification experience is essential. As the finance function grows, you will build and lead your own team, starting with recruiting an Accounts / Credit Controller to report to you.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a forensic-level review of historical accounts across the group — trace, evidence and correct errors and misstatements left by the previous accountant
- Prepare and file VAT returns across the group, ensuring intercompany transfers and trade invoices are correctly distinguished and coded
- Own month-end management accounts, and prepare and file statutory accounts and CT600 corporation tax returns for each trading entity
- Lead the intercompany reconciliation and wind-down accounting for a closed group entity through to completion
- Process monthly payroll for the group, including RTI submissions and pension auto-enrolment
- Correspond directly with HMRC where needed, including any error correction or voluntary disclosure process
- Recruit, train and manage your own team as it grows, starting with an Accounts / Credit Controller
What We're Looking For
- ACA or ACCA qualified, with genuine post-qualification experience — this role carries full sign-off responsibility with no external firm behind it
- Experience with forensic accounting, accounts investigation, or complex historical error correction — comfortable reconstructing an accurate picture from incomplete or inconsistent records, with evidence-based working papers
- Demonstrable multi-entity or group accounting experience, including intercompany transactions
- Experience preparing and filing statutory accounts and CT600 returns directly, not just management accounts
- Payroll experience including RTI submissions and pension auto-enrolment
- Some people-management experience, or clear readiness to recruit and lead a small team
