- Demonstrable success leading teams, driving improvements, and ensuring compliance within a complex operational setting
- Experience managing people matters including performance, and attendance
- Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop large operational teams
- Strong budget management, resource planning and performance monitoring capabilities
- Ability to interpret data, analyse trends, and adjust operations to achieve targets
- Excellent communication skills with experience engaging key stakeholders and communities
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety, risk management, and compliance frameworks
- A commitment to sustainability, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Knowledge of street cleansing, waste management, or environmental services legislation (desirable)
As an Operations Manager within Street Cleansing, you’ll take ownership at depot level, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory standards.
You’ll make a genuine difference to residents across Birmingham by leading teams, managing resources, and driving performance.
What you’ll be responsible for…
- Leading high-performing teams – inspiring and developing frontline managers and staff to deliver excellent services
- Managing resources and budgets – ensuring effective deployment of people, equipment, and funding
- Driving operational performance – using data, systems, and insights to improve efficiency and meet targets
- Ensuring safety and compliance – overseeing Health & Safety, risk management, and legal compliance standards
- Engaging with communities and stakeholders – responding to local priorities and building strong relationships
- Leading continuous improvement – modernising services and enhancing environmental outcomes
- Managing service performance and complaints – resolving issues and improving customer satisfaction
