Job Purpose:
The HGV Jetter Driver is responsible for supporting the safe, effective, and efficient maintenance of drainage systems across the UK road network. Operating high-pressure jetting and recycling equipment, the role involves carrying out drainage cleaning, desilting, root cutting, and associated CCTV investigations to ensure infrastructure remains operational and compliant with client and industry standards.
Working as part of a skilled operational team, the postholder will deliver high-quality services using specialist recycling units, maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, environmental compliance, and customer service. Based from either the Telford or Tidworth depot, the role requires flexibility to travel and, when necessary, work away from home to support projects and client requirements across the UK.
Accountabilities:
· Take full responsibility for the safe and legal operation, security, and daily management of the assigned HGV jetting and recycling vehicle, ensuring it remains roadworthy and compliant at all times.
· Operate high-pressure water jetting, vacuumation, and recycling equipment safely and effectively to undertake drainage cleaning, desilting, root cutting, and blockage removal activities in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.
· Work collaboratively as part of a two-person operational team to deliver drainage maintenance activities efficiently, safely, and to the required quality standards.
· Ensure the safety of colleagues, clients, contractors, and members of the public by adhering to High Pressure Water Jetting (HPWJ) safety protocols, site-specific controls, and safe systems of work.
· Liaise professionally with clients, supervisors, and internal stakeholders to communicate site findings, identify drainage defects or blockages, and provide recommendations for remedial actions where appropriate.
· Complete all assigned works in compliance with relevant health, safety, environmental, and operational legislation, company policies, and client requirements.
· Monitor the environmental impact of operations and ensure all activities are carried out in a manner that minimises risk to the environment and surrounding infrastructure.
· Complete and submit accurate shift reports, work records, inspection documentation, and other required paperwork within agreed timescales and project requirements.
· Conduct routine vehicle inspections, pre-use checks, and basic maintenance activities, promptly reporting defects and ensuring equipment is maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
· Wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring it remains fit for purpose and reporting any damage or replacement requirements.
· Review and comply with all relevant risk assessments, method statements, permits, and site-specific safety information before commencing work activities.
· Attend and actively participate in pre-shift briefings, toolbox talks, training sessions, and safety meetings to ensure awareness of operational requirements and associated risks.
· Demonstrate a proactive commitment to health, safety, wellbeing, and continuous improvement by identifying hazards, reporting incidents or near misses, and promoting a positive safety culture.
· Comply fully with all company health and safety policies, procedures, and standards, including drug and alcohol policies and regulatory requirements.
· Maintain all mandatory qualifications, licences, and competency certifications required for the role, working with the HR and management teams to ensure training and renewals are completed within required timescales.
· Support operational delivery across the UK, including occasional working away from home when required to meet business and client needs.
Skills/Training and Qualifications
- Valid HGV Class 1 or Class 2 (Category C) driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
- Valid CSCS or CPCS card.
- High Pressure Water Jetting (HPWJ) certification.
- Experience within the drainage, utilities, highways, or infrastructure maintenance sector.
- Understanding of drainage cleaning, desilting, root cutting and blockage clearance activities.
- Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication, reporting and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work 10-hour shifts and primarily night shifts (Monday to Friday).
- Willingness to travel and work away from home as required.
Pay: Up to £167.09 per day
