Provide leadership and specialist guidance on environmental compliance and sustainability across Grain LNG, embedding an environmentally responsible and sustainability-focused culture. The role is responsible for maintaining compliance with the terminal’s Environmental and UK Emission Trading Scheme Permits, managing site MATTE risks and identifying sustainability improvement opportunities, ensuring effective controls, protection measures and sustainable practices are implemented and maintained.
Working with operational teams, the role supports delivery of the Environment and Sustainability Management System, improves environmental performance and resource efficiency, and contributes to the Net Zero roadmap. It would suit an Engineer, Scientist or environmental professional with relevant experience, sound knowledge of environmental legislation and a strong interest in sustainability and environmental improvement.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead, supervise and develop a team of two responsible for onsite environmental works, emissions monitoring, compliance reporting and environmental performance improvement.
- Develop, implement and maintain environment and sustainability management systems, including leadership of ISO 14001 implementation and ownership of the terminal Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register.
- Lead environmental risk assessments, reviews, audits, inspections and compliance checks to ensure risks are effectively controlled and actions are completed in line with Environment Agency requirements, Grain LNG policies and safety standards.
- Monitor environmental incidents, ensure accurate reporting and investigation, produce investigation reports where required, and ensure learning and corrective actions are captured, communicated and closed out.
- Act as environmental technical authority within Management of Change, Permit to Work and non-routine operational review processes, providing clear advice to support safe and compliant site activities.
- Proactively monitor changes in environmental legislation, including the Environmental Permitting Regulations and UK Emissions Trading Scheme, and ensure relevant implications for Grain LNG are understood and communicated.
- Drive continuous improvement through Environment and Sustainability Performance Indicators, briefings and frontline engagement with Assistant Environmental Engineers, operational teams and key stakeholders.
- Lead cultural change and support sustainability initiatives across the operational terminal by identifying opportunities to improve resource efficiency, reduce waste, lower carbon impacts and deliver actions aligned to the Environment and Sustainability Management System and Net Zero roadmap.
You will have knowledge and experience of:
- Environmental Permitting Regulations and UK Emissions Trading Scheme compliance.
- Environmental Management Systems, including ISO 14001 implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement.
- Effective team working, stakeholder engagement and clear communication with operational, technical and project teams.
- Sustainability principles, carbon reduction, resource efficiency and delivery of environmental and sustainability improvement plans.
Also desirable:
- Working knowledge of relevant codes of practice, policies, procedures and statutory regulations.
- Good understanding of LNG operations and process safety principles.
- Understanding of relevant industry standards and company policies, procedures and management system requirements.

A recognised environmental qualification.
Educated to minimum of HNC or equivalent standard/skills, capabilities and competence. The level envisaged may be equivalent to what may have been accrued through 5 years experience.
