About This Role
GUST School is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Construction Tutor to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced construction professional or vocational educator to inspire young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) through practical, engaging and meaningful learning experiences.
The successful candidate will deliver hands-on construction and workshop-based learning, helping students develop vocational skills, confidence, independence and employability skills. You will play a key role in creating a safe, inclusive and motivating environment where learners can thrive and achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging construction lessons and workshop activities tailored to students' individual needs and abilities.
- Plan and deliver differentiated learning programmes that support students' progress and achievement.
- Assess learner performance and provide constructive feedback to support development.
- Track attendance, engagement and achievement, maintaining accurate record-keeping.
- Support learners' personal, social and emotional development alongside vocational learning.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, support staff and external agencies to ensure positive outcomes for learners.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement within the department.
- Maintain a safe workshop environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and oversee the safe use of tools, equipment and machinery.
- Promote positive behaviour, learner engagement and independence.
- Uphold safeguarding, equality and inclusion standards at all times.
About You
We are looking for someone who is passionate about vocational education and committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
Essential Requirements
- A construction qualification of level 3 or above.
- Practical experience within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of workshop health and safety procedures.
- Ability to engage and motivate young people with diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and record-keeping abilities.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Requirements
- Teacher, trainer or assessing qualification (PGCE, CertEd, AET, PTLLS or equivalent)
- Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities.
- Experience delivering vocational qualifications or construction-based programmes.
- Knowledge of EHCPs and differentiated learning strategies.
- First aid, safeguarding or health and safety qualifications.

Pay: £25,948.79-£28,617.52 per year
