Meta is seeking an experienced attorney to join its International Data Legal team, providing strategic legal counsel on complex cross-border data protection, privacy, and regulatory compliance matters that underpin Meta's global products and services. In this role, you will serve as a subject matter authority on evolving privacy regulations across multiple jurisdictions, including Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey (AMET). You will partner closely with product, policy, engineering, and compliance teams to shape how Meta navigates the global regulatory landscape, ensuring that data practices across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meta AI products are legally sound and strategically aligned.
- Provide authoritative legal guidance on international data protection laws across Africa, Middle East, and Turkey, including emerging privacy frameworks and data protection requirements in these regions

Lead engagement with data protection authorities across Africa, Middle East, and Turkey, coordinating regulatory inquiries, audits, and enforcement proceedings in collaboration with regional legal and policy teams

Identify and assess legal risks associated with new and evolving data protection mandates and develop mitigation strategies across various AMET jurisdictions

Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including policy, trust and safety, and compliance to align data legal positions with broader regulatory and business objectives

Contribute to organizational strategy by anticipating regulatory developments in AMET markets and proactively shaping internal frameworks, policies, and governance structures

Communicate complex international data law issues clearly to executive leadership, product teams, and external regulators through written briefings, legal opinions, and presentations

Coach and provide guidance to other attorneys and legal professionals on international data legal matters, sharing expertise to build organizational capability

Leverage AI-integrated workflows to enhance legal research, regulatory monitoring, and cross-jurisdictional analysis at scale

Meta requires all employed attorneys to have a law degree or equivalent certificate to permit the practice of law and be appropriately licensed and authorized to practice law for the company in their assigned work location. Unless prohibited under local law, an attorney must hold a current practicing certificate (including where required from the relevant authority in the jurisdiction of the assigned work location) or the local law equivalent bar registration or license as may be applicable

8+ years of experience practicing data protection, privacy, or technology law, with a focus on international regulatory frameworks

Experience independently managing complex, multi-jurisdictional legal matters and driving legal strategy across cross-functional teams

Experience communicating legal risk and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and non-legal stakeholders in written and verbal formats

Active bar membership or equivalent legal qualification in a relevant jurisdiction

Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)

Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)

Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
