Night Shift Manager – Huddersfield
Salary: £35,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week - permanent
Shift: Sunday to Thursday – Nights
Location: Huddersfield
Areera is looking for an experienced Night Shift Manager to lead our Huddersfield recycling operation.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable being visible on the production floor, leading from the front and taking ownership of people, safety, staffing and performance throughout the shift.
You’ll be responsible for creating a safe, productive and well-organised working environment, while motivating and developing the team to achieve consistently high standards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and manage the night shift production team
- Maintain a strong health & safety culture, challenging unsafe behaviour and ensuring procedures are followed
- Ensure incidents, near misses and safety concerns are reported, investigated and followed through
- Plan and manage core and agency staffing levels to meet operational requirements
- Manage agency labour, including attendance and performance
- Identify training needs and support in the delivery of training
- Manage attendance, conduct and performance where required
- Monitor productivity, quality, downtime and overall shift performance
- Allocate people and resources effectively to keep production running efficiently
- Complete accurate shift reporting covering safety, staffing, production and key issues
- Provide clear handovers and escalate significant concerns to the wider management team
- Support continuous improvement across safety, productivity and ways of working
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a confident and practical shift manager with experience in a production, manufacturing, recycling, warehouse or similar operational environment.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong people management and motivational skills
- A hands-on, visible leadership style
- Experience managing permanent and agency employees
- A strong understanding of health & safety in an operational environment
- Confidence managing performance, attendance and conduct
- Good reporting and communication skills
- The ability to make decisions and take ownership of the shift
- A strong focus on safety, productivity and continuous improvement
Experience within recycling, waste or WEEE would be an advantage, but is not essential.
The person
You’ll be someone who enjoys being on the floor with the team rather than managing from an office.
You’ll be approachable but firm, able to motivate people, maintain standards and deal with issues quickly and fairly.
Most importantly, you’ll take ownership of running asafe, productive and well-managed night shift.
