About the Role
Reading is strategically positioned within the Thames Valley, offering strong transport connections to London, Heathrow Airport and major distribution routes across southern England. At PTS Solid Logistics Ltd, we support businesses through dependable transport, warehousing, fulfilment and supply chain services.
We are looking for a Senior Logistics Operations Manager who can take ownership of daily logistics performance across transportation, warehousing, distribution and customer delivery operations. You will work closely with transport teams, warehouse managers, commercial departments, suppliers and third party logistics providers to ensure that services remain efficient, compliant and commercially sustainable.
This role is suited to an experienced logistics professional who can manage complex operations, lead multidisciplinary teams and improve performance across multiple service areas. You will use operational data, customer requirements and financial information to reduce costs, strengthen service reliability and support continued business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Logistics Operations Management: Oversee daily transport, warehousing, distribution and fulfilment activities to ensure consistent service delivery.
- Transport Coordination: Manage vehicle planning, delivery schedules, route performance and carrier capacity across regional and national operations.
- Warehouse Performance: Work with warehouse teams to maintain efficient receiving, storage, picking, packing and dispatch processes.
- Service Delivery: Ensure that customer orders and shipments are completed accurately and within agreed service levels.
- Team Leadership: Lead logistics managers, supervisors, transport planners and operational employees while maintaining clear accountability.
- Performance Monitoring: Track delivery performance, warehouse productivity, order accuracy, vehicle utilisation and service failures.
- Cost Control: Monitor transport, labour, warehousing and supplier expenditure against approved budgets and operational targets.
- Supplier Management: Manage relationships with carriers, subcontractors, equipment suppliers and third party logistics providers.
- Customer Coordination: Work closely with customer service and commercial teams to resolve delivery concerns and support key client accounts.
- Process Improvement: Review logistics workflows and introduce practical improvements that increase capacity, accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Risk Management: Identify capacity shortages, delivery disruption, supplier dependency and operational risks and establish contingency plans.
- Compliance: Ensure that transport and warehouse activities follow applicable UK regulations, health and safety standards and company procedures.
- Project Delivery: Lead logistics improvement projects, site transitions, technology implementations and service expansion initiatives.
- Management Reporting: Prepare regular reports covering costs, productivity, service performance, operational risks and improvement priorities.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: At least 7 years of experience in logistics, transportation, warehousing, distribution or supply chain operations, including substantial management responsibility.
- Education: Bachelor degree or recognised professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Business Operations or a related discipline.
- Operational Knowledge: Strong understanding of transport planning, warehouse operations, order fulfilment and distribution management.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage operational teams, develop supervisors and maintain accountability across multiple functions.
- Commercial Awareness: Experience managing budgets, supplier costs, operational margins and customer service commitments.
- Performance Management: Ability to establish operational measures, analyse performance trends and implement measurable improvements.
- Transport Compliance: Practical knowledge of UK transport requirements, driver compliance, vehicle operations and workplace health and safety.
- Supplier Management: Experience negotiating with logistics providers and monitoring contractual and service performance.
- Problem Solving: Ability to respond effectively to delivery failures, capacity constraints and unexpected operational disruption.
- Communication: Strong written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to coordinate employees, suppliers, customers and senior stakeholders.
- Technology Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, transport management systems, warehouse management systems and operational reporting platforms.
- Organisation: Ability to manage competing priorities, customer deadlines and operational responsibilities in a fast paced environment.
- Professional Qualification: Membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport or another recognised professional body is an advantage.
Pay: £52,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
