We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated HGV mechanic/plant fitter/workshop engineer to join our busy and well-established workshop team.

The Role
You will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and inspection of our diverse fleet, including skip, hook and articulated vehicles and maintenace of site machinery and plant.
Working hours:
- Full-time: Monday to Friday, 6:30am – 4:30pm
- Overtime available during the week and on Saturdays (flexibility required)
Pay:
- from £16 per hour, dependent on experience
- Rate to be discussed in more detail at interview
A company van will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, repairs and maintenance of HGVs and associated equipment
- Carry out regular servicing of on-site machinery, e.g. changing bearings, motors, gearboxes on the plant
- Diagnose faults and complete defect repairs using the R2C system
- Report and liaise with the Workshop Manager and Transport Manager
- Source parts, liaise with suppliers and compare pricing where required
- Undertake general maintenance tasks across the site
- Use variety of specialist equipment and tools
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety and environmental standards
- Complete daily job sheet.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Proven mechanical experience and relevant qualifications (e.g. NVQs or equivalent)
- High awareness of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
- Willingness to learn new skills and attend training when required
- Own tools
Desirable:
- Previous experience in the HGV or waste management sector
- Full UK driving licence (Class I / Class II preferred but not essential)
Personal qualities:
- Reliable and punctual
- Flexible approach to work
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to work effectively as part of a team
- Good standard of spoken and written English
