Salary & Benefits
Hourly rate: £15.25 per hour, sleep rate £54, equivalent to £33,489.00 per annum.
2 on 4 off rotating shift pattern.

What you'll do
- Lead allocated shifts and help ensure the safe and effective day to day operation of the home
- Provide high quality, child centred care and support to children and young people
- Provide day to day leadership, guidance and direction to Residential Support Workers and other staff
- Coordinate shifts, allocate duties and ensure staffing is deployed effectively according to children's needs and identified risks
- Ensure children receive care in line with their individual care plans, risk assessments and assessed needs
- Support routines, appointments, education, activities and other positive opportunities for children and young people
- Maintain an overview of safeguarding, risk and behaviour throughout your shift and ensure concerns are acted upon and escalated appropriately
- Guide staff in responding to incidents, challenging situations and changes in children's circumstances
- Monitor the quality and completion of staff records, incident reports and other required documentation
- Conduct effective shift handovers and ensure important information is communicated to the wider team
- Promote positive behaviour, independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing
- Build trusting and professionally appropriate relationships with children and ensure their wishes and feelings are listened to
- Support staff to understand and follow care plans, risk assessments, policies and agreed behaviour support strategies
- Challenge poor or unsafe practice appropriately and escalate significant concerns to management
- Support audits, quality assurance and continuous improvement within the home
- Support new and less experienced staff through guidance, mentoring and constructive feedback
- Work collaboratively with managers, colleagues, families, social workers, education providers and other professionals
- Ensure the home remains safe, clean, welcoming and appropriately maintained
- Undertake delegated responsibilities, including key-working and other duties appropriate to the role
- Promote a positive culture of professional practice, accountability, safeguarding and continuous learning
Qualifications
- QCF Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or recognised equivalent, or willingness and ability to achieve the required qualification within applicable regulatory timescales
- Relevant leadership or management qualification is desirable

- Experience of working with children or young people within residential care, social care, education, youth work or a comparable setting

- Confidence in taking responsibility and making appropriate decisions during shifts
- An understanding of safeguarding, risk assessment and behaviour support
- Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to recognise when matters require escalation to management
- Ability to follow and promote compliance with policies, procedures, care plans and risk assessments
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain accurate, professional and timely records
- Ability to provide constructive guidance and challenge poor practice appropriately
- Ability to work effectively as part of a wider team
- Reliability, flexibility, integrity and professional accountability

- Ability to work the shift patterns required within a residential children's home
- Full UK driving licence where driving is required by the service
Desirable:
- Previous experience within a senior or shift leading residential childcare role
- Knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
- Experience of leading shifts within a residential care environment
- Experience of safeguarding and incident management
- Experience of contributing to risk assessments and care planning
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and relationship based approaches
- Experience of mentoring or supporting staff
- Experience of quality assurance or auditing care records
