About the role
We are looking for a reliable, caring Personal Assistant / Carer to join the small home care team supporting a disabled child in a family home in the Poole/Parkstone area. This is a rewarding role supporting a non-verbal child with complex medical needs to be safe, comfortable and happy at home and in the community.
Hours:
2-week rolling rota – average 40 hours per month, with opportunities for extra shifts if desired
Week 1: Monday 4–8pm & Friday 4–8pm
Week 2: Saturday 8am–8pm
Pay:
£14.66 per hour (PAYE)

Main duties
- Personal care
- Following epilepsy and dystonia protocols
- Hoisting
- PEG-J feeding
- Handling medications (after training and competency sign-off)
- Suction
- Driving his wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) for outings and appointments
- Closely liaising with mum as part of the care team
- Having fun and keeping him smiling, with sensory play and activities
Training and support
- Full training provided for all aspects of his care – attitude and willingness to learn are more important than previous experience, although some care experience is desirable
- Shadowing shifts with experienced carers before working independently
- You will not be expected to work alone until you and mum are both confident you are fully comfortable in the role
Requirements
- Employed role (PAYE)
- Must be 25+ with a full UK driving licence (to drive the family Motability WAV)
- Enhanced DBS (willingness to complete one)
- Reliable, calm, and able to follow care plans and protocols
