Job Title: Aspiring/Qualified Early Years Teacher

Contracted Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Working Pattern: Shift-based rota including early mornings, late evenings and weekends
Operational Hours: Monday to Sunday, 7:00am – 9:00pm
Salary: £17.50 – £21.50 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Job Purpose: To deliver high-quality early years education and care in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. The post holder will contribute to curriculum planning, assessment and the holistic development of children aged 0–5 years, ensuring a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment.
For aspiring candidates this is a graduate-level role requiring academic depth, strong pedagogical understanding and commitment to professional development, including progression towards Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning:
- Plan, prepare and deliver structured learning activities aligned with the EYFS framework.
- Support children’s development across communication and language, literacy, numeracy, personal, emotional and social development.
- Implement differentiated strategies to meet diverse learning needs, including SEND.
- Maintain accurate observations, assessments and developmental records.
- Promote school readiness through structured and play-based learning approaches.
Classroom Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and implementing engaging activities tailored to children's developmental stages
- Support daily nursery routines, including meal times, play sessions, and nap times
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes children's social, emotional, and cognitive development
- Supervise children both indoors and outdoors, ensuring their safety at all times
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and team members to ensure a cohesive childcare experience
- Support management in maintaining nursery standards and adhering to health and safety regulations
- Participate in ongoing training programmes to enhance childcare skills and early childhood education knowledge
- Assist with organisational tasks such as record keeping and activity planning as directed by senior staff.
Curriculum & Assessment:
- Contribute to curriculum design and continuous improvement of educational provision.
- Monitor progress and prepare written reports for parents and carers.
- Participate in planning meetings and professional reviews.
Safeguarding & Welfare
- Uphold safeguarding policies and child protection procedures.
- Ensure health, safety and welfare standards are consistently maintained.
- Promote inclusive practice and equal opportunities.
Professional Conduct & Development
- Engage in continuous professional development activities.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Prepare for and support inspection processes where required.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any area of study
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or recognised equivalent) in English, Maths, and Science
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Minimum of one year’s experience working in an educational setting with children
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment
- Passionate about early childhood development with a caring and nurturing attitude
- Commitment to enrol in and complete Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) at the first available intake if not already holding QTS, EYTS or EYPS..
- Strong management and leadership skills with the ability to organise activities effectively
Desirable Qualifications
- Qualified EYTS/EYPS/QTS status.
- Knowledge of the EYFS statutory framework
- Understanding of child development principles
- Experience supporting children from diverse cultural or linguistic backgrounds
- Childcare or nursery experience is preferred but not essential; enthusiasm for learning is key
- Valid driving licence is advantageous for transporting children or supplies if required
- Degree specialism in Science, Technology, English, Arts, Mathematics, Humanities, Social Sciences or Foreign Languages
Working Pattern
- 37.5 hours per week on a shift/rota basis.
- Shifts scheduled between 7:00am and 9:00pm, Monday to Sunday.
- Flexibility required to meet operational needs.
Remuneration:
- Hourly rate between £17.50 – £21.50, dependent on qualifications and experience
- Annual salary equivalent will be calculated based on contracted hours
