What You’ll Be Doing
As the Operations Supervisor (Nights), you will be responsible for leading and overseeing all overnight warehouse operations, ensuring customer requirements and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are consistently achieved in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. You will manage and support the night shift team, maintain operational and inventory controls, ensure compliance with Health & Safety and company policies, and act as the senior operational representative on site outside normal business hours. The role requires effective resource planning, performance management, clear communication through shift handovers, and a continuous focus on service delivery, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all night shift warehouse activities, ensuring operational targets and customer requirements are achieved.
- Promote a strong Health & Safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and legal requirements throughout the shift.
- Conduct shift briefings and ensure all incidents, hazards, and near misses are reported and escalated appropriately.
- Manage employee attendance, holidays, sickness, and absence records through Citrus HR.
- Uphold the On Logistics Circle of Values and demonstrate these behaviours through effective leadership and decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with waste management and housekeeping standards in line with SHEQ and company requirements.
- Maintain accurate inventory and material flow controls to achieve customer service and OTIF performance targets.
- Operate and support customer systems, ensuring all transactions and records are maintained accurately.
- Lead, motivate, develop, and coach team members, creating a positive and high-performing working environment.
- Identify training and development needs, ensuring team competency records and skills matrices remain current.
- Conduct performance reviews and support employee development through regular feedback and coaching.
- Ensure effective communication and shift handovers, providing clear updates on performance, issues, and priorities.
- Support customer requirements and contribute to operational improvement initiatives that enhance service and efficiency.
About You
Qualifications and training
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and warehouse/customer operating systems.
- Understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a warehouse or logistics environment.
Experience
- Previous experience within a warehouse, logistics, distribution or supply chain environment.
- Experience leading and motivating operational teams to achieve performance targets.
- Experience managing day-to-day operational activities and resolving operational issues.
- Experience of inventory control and maintaining accurate stock records.
- Experience conducting team briefings, shift handovers and performance discussions.
- Experience working within Health & Safety procedures and compliance requirements.
- Experience monitoring KPIs and implementing corrective actions where required.
