Alpha Schools is looking for a proactive and customer-focused 2nd Line Field IT Engineer to join our expanding IT Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work across our network of 20 independent schools, supporting staff and students by ensuring our IT infrastructure is secure, reliable and operating at its very best.
Based in Cheltenham, you'll travel to our schools when required, providing hands-on technical support and working alongside colleagues to deliver high-quality IT services.

About the Role and You

Salary: £32,000 to £35,000 per annum, dependent on experience

Location: Cheltenham
The Role: As a Field IT Engineer, you'll provide both remote and on-site technical support, ensuring our schools' IT systems operate efficiently with minimal disruption. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 2nd Line technical support to schools and Head Office.
- Installing, configuring and maintaining desktops, laptops, printers and other IT equipment.
- Supporting Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365 and user accounts.
- Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software and network issues.
- Maintaining and supporting Active Directory, networking equipment and Wi-Fi infrastructure.
- Carrying out system upgrades, maintenance and security updates.
- Supporting school visits to resolve technical issues and deliver infrastructure improvements.
- Maintaining accurate IT documentation and asset records.
- Delivering excellent customer service and technical advice to school staff.
About You : We're looking for someone who is technically capable, organised and enjoys building positive working relationships. Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience in a 2nd Line IT Support or Field IT Engineer role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365.
- Experience supporting hardware, software and network infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and networking fundamentals.
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between schools.
- Strong communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and work independently.
A degree in IT, Computer Science or a related discipline is desirable but not essential where relevant commercial experience can be demonstrated.
This role involves regular travel between Alpha Schools locations. Occasional flexibility may be required to support planned maintenance or urgent technical issues outside normal working hours.
