Job Title: Commercial Account Executive
Salary: £45,000 – £65,000 + Bonus
Location: Portsmouth | Hybrid
My Client and I are currently working to recruit an experience Commercial Account Executive with a great blend of technical capacity to manage a book and ability to grow through new business.
I am working with an established independent commercial insurance broker with a long-standing presence in the UK market. The business has been established for decades and has built a strong reputation for providing tailored insurance solutions and a highly personal service to businesses across a broad range of sectors.
A unique opportunity has presented itself through the retirement of a long standing and respected Executive, and as such there is a book of well maintained, mid-market clients who have been loyal to the same brokerage for years. A succession of this nature as opposed to purely managing a previous Executives clients is always more managable as there will be no post covenant attack on the book.
What's On Offer?
- £45,000 – £70,000 basic salary, depending on experience
- Well maintained book to inherit.
- 10–20% bonus

The Role
The successful candidate will inherit a portfolio of commercial clients while also being encouraged to develop new relationships and generate new business.
A member of the existing team is retiring, creating the opportunity to take responsibility for a number of established client relationships, alongside developing your own pipeline.
The role call for someone who enjoys being out on the road, attend meetings and networking events, and build relationships with business owners and key decision-makers.
You will work across a broad range of commercial insurance classes and sectors, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and doesn't want to be restricted to one particular niche.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop an existing portfolio of commercial insurance clients
- Build strong, long-term relationships with clients and understand their individual businesses and risk requirements
- Identify and generate new business opportunities
- Attend client meetings and networking events
- Develop relationships with prospects, business owners and key decision-makers
- Manage new business from initial enquiry through to placement
- Handle renewals and mid-term adjustments
- Work closely with insurers to negotiate appropriate cover and competitive terms
- Provide professional advice across a broad range of commercial insurance products
- Identify opportunities to grow existing client relationships
- Take a consultative approach to understanding clients' risks rather than simply focusing on price
- Maintain strong relationships with insurers and key market contacts
The Client:
The business is an independent commercial insurance broker with a long-established presence in the market.
They have access to the whole insurance market, including Lloyd's, allowing them to provide clients with genuinely tailored solutions rather than being restricted to a specific insurer panel.
Their client base spans a wide variety of commercial sectors, meaning no two days are necessarily the same. The business works with SMEs through to larger and more complex commercial clients, with premiums typically ranging from £5,000 to £50,000.
The company places a strong emphasis on understanding the businesses it works with, providing advice around risk and delivering the right level of protection rather than taking a transactional approach to insurance.
The successful candidate will join an established team of experienced insurance professionals within a business that values long-term relationships, high-quality service, autonomy and professional expertise.
What They're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a Commercial Account Executive / Commercial Broker
- Strong knowledge across commercial insurance products and classes
- Experience managing and developing an existing book of business
- A track record of generating or contributing to new business
- Experience dealing with commercial premiums in the region of £5,000–£50,000
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence meeting clients face-to-face
- A genuine interest in networking and business development
- The ability to work independently while contributing to an established team
- A professional and consultative approach to client relationships
