Job Summary
- To support the effective day-to-day coordination, administration and continuous improvement of the site
- To develop the technical knowledge, confidence and practical competence required to progress from a coordinator-level role into a SHE Advisor role and, over an agreed development period, become capable of deputising for and progressing toward SHE Manager responsibility.
- To assist managers, supervisors and employees in controlling workplace risks by supporting inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, training, contractor control, audit preparation, action tracking and SHE communication.
- To promote a positive safety culture by being visible on the shop floor, engaging with employees, following up actions and encouraging safe behaviours and legal compliance.
Responsibilities
- SHE coordination and administration
- Maintain SHE records, action trackers, training matrices, inspection schedules, risk assessment registers and compliance documentation.
- Support the preparation of monthly SHE reports, KPI updates, toolbox talks, safety alerts and management briefings.
- Coordinate SHE meetings, record actions and follow up with responsible persons to ensure agreed improvements are completed.
- Risk assessment and control of work
- Assist with the creation, review and communication of risk assessments, COSHH assessments, SOPs and safe systems of work.
- Support permit to work, contractor control, isolation/LOTO, work at height, lifting, MEWP, hot work and maintenance safety arrangements.
- Undertake workplace observations and help verify that controls are understood, available and being followed.
- Inspections, audits and management systems
- Carry out scheduled workplace inspections and support internal audits against site procedures, ISO45001, ISO 14001 and legal compliance expectations.
- Record findings clearly, agree actions with area owners and check that actions are closed effectively rather than only administratively.
- Support external audits, customer audits and regulatory visits by helping prepare evidence and follow-up actions.
- Incident reporting and investigation
- Support the reporting, recording and investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Gather information, photographs, statements and evidence as required, while developing root-cause analysis and investigation skills.
- Help identify corrective and preventive actions and support communication of lessons learned across site.
Training, communication and engagement
- Coordinate SHE training requirements, refresher training, inductions and toolbox talk records.
- Promote safe behaviours through shop-floor engagement, visible safety conversations and support to managers and team leaders.
- Assist with campaigns and improvement projects covering PPE, housekeeping, pedestrian safety, chemical safety, manual handling and emergency preparedness. Environmental and compliance support
- Support waste management, spill control, environmental inspections, chemical storage checks, duty of care records and environmental action plans.
- Assist with environmental incident reporting, investigation and follow-up actions. Support continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing risk, waste, cost and non-conformance.
- Development pathway and succession planning
- Year 1: operate confidently as a SHE Coordinator managing records, inspections, actions and lower-risk support activities.
- Year 2: progress toward SHE Advisor capability by leading lower-risk assessments, investigations, audits and improvement actions with support.
- Year 3: demonstrate the competence, judgement and leadership behaviours required to deputise for the SHE Manager and be considered for future management progression.
Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
