We are looking for a Youth Mentor to work with students on a one-to-one basis in a school in Yeovil, Somerset.
The Altering Group partners with schools across the UK to deliver mentoring, empowering young people to reach their potential. As a Youth Mentor, you will play a vital role in helping young people through their difficulties, set goals, and achieve their potential.

The role
As a Freelance Youth Mentor, you will work directly with students in a school in Yeovil, Somerset on a one-to-one basis, delivering tailored mentoring sessions designed to offering guidance and support in various aspects of their lives, including behavioural/academic challenges.
You’ll collaborate closely with staff within the school and at The Altering Group to ensure support is tailored and effective, and that you receive the support you need within the role.
Some sessions may take place within the community.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 mentoring sessions to students referred by the school, on the school premises and in the community
- Build trusting, professional relationships that support students' development
- Support students in setting and achieving personal and educational goals
- Liaise with pastoral leads and other staff to ensure consistent communication and joined-up support
- Maintain accurate records of sessions and progress for reporting purposes
- Adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries at all times
- Adhere to school specific and organisational policies, frameworks and guidance
About you
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting young people through mentoring or counselling, ideally within schools and the community. A qualification in youth work or similar, is desired.
We are looking for a Youth Mentor who provides a non-judgemental, empathetic, patient and culturally sensetive approach. You will be passionate about supporting young people facing a range of challenges, and from diverse communities.
You will be able to use your own knowledge and lived experience to guide and support the young people within this school and community setting.
This role requires an Enhanced DBS check, and so you must be willing to obtain this.
This is a self-employed, freelance role, and so you must be willing to work on a freelance basis and manage your self-employment responsibilities.
