Job Summary
We are seeking a flexible Class 1 driver to join our friendly team working for a family business in general haulage. We transport a wide range of goods including pallets, machinery, construction material, sports equipment etc.. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely transporting goods across various routes, ensuring timely deliveries, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and vehicle care. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for driving and experience in commercial transportation to contribute to our company's success. We run a modern fleet and have our own workshop to ensure vehicles are maintained to high standard. Job is Monday to Friday with some nights out required (with notice) and weekend work available.
Duties
- Operate an artic with either curtain sided or flat bed trailers and other commercial vehicles in accordance with road safety regulations. A vehicle will be allocated to you which you will drive most of the time, changing vehicles occasionally depending on levels of work or maintenance.
- Plan and follow efficient delivery routes to ensure timely collection and distribution of goods.
- Load and unload cargo, ensuring items are secured properly during transit using ratchet straps.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after journeys, reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance logs.
- Adhere to all legal requirements related to driving hours, load limits, and safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and clients regarding delivery schedules or any unforeseen delays.
Skills
- Proven experience in driving curtain sided and flat bed trailers.
- Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and best practices for commercial driving.
- Previous HGV experience is required.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan routes efficiently.
- Good communication skills to liaise effectively with team members and customers.
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks such as loading and unloading cargo safely.
- Valid Class 1 driving licence required. This role is ideal for dedicated drivers seeking a professional environment where safety, punctuality, and customer satisfaction are paramount.
- Ideally the candidate will have a forklift and/or lorry mounted Manitou licence, but training will be provided if not.

Pay: £37,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
