About the Role
Mon Chai is a small, vibrant boutique restaurant and café on St Benedict’s Street in Norwich. We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and bubbly Barista to join our team full-time.
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality, takes pride in making excellent drinks and loves engaging with customers. As we are a small team, this is very much an all-round, hands-on position. Everyone helps each other, so you must be willing to get involved in both front and back-of-house duties when required.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous barista and café/hospitality experience
- Experience making speciality coffee
- Confidence with espresso extraction and grinder adjustment
- Excellent milk steaming and texturing skills
- Latte art skills
- Experience preparing matcha and matcha-based drinks
- A good understanding of drink quality, consistency and presentation
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- A naturally bubbly, energetic and positive personality
- Confidence engaging and building rapport with customers
- The ability to remain calm and organised during busy periods
- Strong multitasking skills
- Good attention to detail
- Till/POS and cash-handling experience
- Good food hygiene and allergen awareness
- High standards of personal hygiene and cleanliness
- Reliability and punctuality
- A strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- The initiative to see what needs doing without always being asked
- The flexibility to help wherever the team needs support
Your Responsibilities
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Preparing high-quality speciality coffees
- Making matcha and other hot and cold drinks
- Taking customer orders and payments
- Welcoming and engaging with customers
- Providing friendly, attentive and professional service
- Maintaining consistent drink quality and presentation
- Keeping the coffee station clean, organised and fully stocked
- Clearing, cleaning and resetting tables
- Maintaining a clean and welcoming front-of-house area
- Washing up and assisting with general cleaning when required
- Restocking milk, coffee, matcha, cups and other supplies
- Monitoring stock levels and informing the team when items are running low
- Helping minimise unnecessary waste
- Supporting opening and closing duties
- Liaising closely with the kitchen to ensure orders run smoothly
- Helping the kitchen and back-of-house team when required
- Supporting colleagues during busy services
- Taking responsibility for maintaining excellent standards throughout your shift

Because Mon Chai is a small boutique café and restaurant, we need someone who understands that no job is “not my job”. One moment you may be making a beautiful speciality coffee, the next you may be taking an order, clearing a table, restocking, helping the kitchen or making sure a customer is looked after.
You should be reliable, hardworking, proactive and a team player who is willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed.
Previous barista/hospitality experience is required for this position.
