Help create a warm welcome while supporting your local hospice
Our coffee shop is more than just a place to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat – it's a welcoming space where patients, visitors, families and members of the local community come together. As a Coffee Shop Assistant Volunteer, you'll help create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere while raising vital funds to support specialist hospice care.
Whether you enjoy chatting with customers, preparing food and drinks or helping keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes, we'll provide all the training and support you need. No previous café or hospitality experience is required – just enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to get involved.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Coffee Shop Assistant Volunteer, you may support with a range of activities, including:

Welcoming customers and providing friendly, helpful service

Taking orders, serving customers and handling payments
-
Preparing coffees, teas and other hot drinks
-
Preparing and serving simple food
-
Delivering food and drinks to tables
-
Clearing tables and helping to keep the café clean, tidy and welcoming
-
Loading and unloading the dishwasher and assisting with general kitchen duties
-
Supporting stock rotation and helping keep food preparation areas organised
-
Following food hygiene guidance and safe working practices at all times
We'll work with you to make sure you're comfortable and confident in the tasks you undertake.
Time Commitment

Flexible volunteering to fit around your availability

Flexible shifts arranged with you

Ideally one morning or afternoon each week (even a few hours can make a real difference)

Will let us know if you're unable to attend a planned volunteering session

No previous café or hospitality experience is required, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Important Information

Volunteers must be aged 14 or over

All volunteers are required to attend:

Voluntary Statutory Training (3 hours)

Ashgate Hospice Volunteer Induction (3 hours)

Local role-specific training will be provided

Confidentiality around patient and hospice information is essential
