Online English Teacher – Young Learners (Children & Teens)
Company: SpeakBrit Academy
Location: Fully remote (UK-based applicants only)
Job type: Self-employed / freelance contractor · Zero-hours
Pay: From £22.00 per teaching hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)
About SpeakBrit Academy
SpeakBrit Academy is a growing online British English academy delivering high-quality live tuition to children, teenagers and adults. We pride ourselves on small class sizes, qualified teachers, and a genuine focus on each learner's progress. As we expand our Young Learners provision, we're looking for warm, engaging and professionally qualified teachers to deliver live online lessons to children and teens.
The Role
You'll deliver live, interactive online English lessons to young learners (primary and/or secondary age), either one-to-one or in small groups. Lessons are scheduled around student enrolment and demand, and you choose the hours you make yourself available — this is a genuinely flexible, self-employed arrangement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging, age-appropriate live online English lessons to children and/or teenagers
- Preparing and adapting lesson content to each learner's level and needs
- Providing constructive feedback and simple progress updates
- Maintaining a safe, encouraging and professional online learning environment
- Following SpeakBrit Academy's safeguarding and teaching standards
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- An Enhanced DBS certificate with a children's barred-list check — or a genuine willingness to obtain one before starting. This is a mandatory safeguarding requirement for anyone teaching under-18s, and no candidate can begin teaching young learners without it.
- A recognised teaching qualification — CELTA, DELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, PGCE, QTS, or an equivalent professional teaching/ELT qualification
- Experience teaching or working with children and/or teenagers
- Excellent spoken and written English
- A confident, patient and encouraging manner with young learners
- Reliability and strong communication with the Academy
- Based in the UK and eligible to work as a self-employed contractor in the UK
Desirable:
- Experience teaching English online
- Experience with exam preparation (e.g. Cambridge Young Learners, KET/PET, IELTS for older teens)
- Familiarity with Zoom and online teaching tools
- Additional safeguarding or child-protection training
Equipment You'll Need (provided at your own expense)
- A computer or laptop with a webcam
- A reliable broadband internet connection
- A headset with microphone
- A quiet, professional space to teach from
The Arrangement
This is a self-employed, freelance contractor role on a zero-hours basis. Please note:
- You are engaged as an independent contractor, not an employee or worker. Nothing in this role creates an employer–employee relationship.
- There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours, students or assignments. Teaching opportunities depend on student enrolment and demand.
- You are free to accept or decline work offered, and to make your own arrangements for how you deliver lessons within our quality standards.
- You are responsible for your own Income Tax, National Insurance and any other statutory liabilities on payments received.
- Payment is made monthly against a valid invoice for hours taught.
Safeguarding
SpeakBrit Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to satisfactory safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS with barred-list check, verification of qualifications, and references. This role involves regulated activity with children.
How to Apply
Please apply with your CV and a short covering note telling us:
- Your teaching qualification(s)
- Your experience teaching or working with children/teens
- Your current DBS status (or willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS)
- Your general weekly availability
We look forward to hearing from you.
SpeakBrit Academy is an equal opportunities organisation and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
