Accountant : Junior Portfolio Accountant

ROLE OVERVIEW
We need a Junior Portfolio Accountant who can take full ownership of a portfolio and manage it confidently, delivering accurate, audit-ready accounts while supporting the development of others in the team.
You’ll be responsible for a varied portfolio of residential developments, acting as the key contact for financial reporting, audits and client-facing finance matters.
The role is designed to balance technical delivery with ownership and influence, allowing you to focus on quality, consistency and continuous improvement.
ROLE EXPECTATIONS
This is a high-responsibility role that requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail and sound judgement.
You will need to balance accuracy, deadlines and stakeholder expectations at the same time and be comfortable taking ownership of audits, reporting and financial processes.
You will be expected to run your portfolio, ensuring accounts are audit-ready, issues are identified early and standards continue to improve.

HOW YOU’LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME
A degree of flexibility is required in this role and there is a high proportion of time spent in person with our valued Clients.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of client properties. Preparing year-end service charge accounts, including adjustments and reallocations
- Produce service charge accounts and year-end reconciliations. Producing profit & loss, balance sheet and supporting reports for audit
- Prepare and review service charge budgets and balancing charges. Leading the audit process, working directly with external auditors and stakeholders
- Carry out bank reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies. Reviewing and approving draft accounts with Property Managers and client boards.
- Prepare quarterly client reporting packs and financial statements.
- Process journals, accruals and prepayments where required. Monitoring cash flow, creditors and financial performance
- Review lease information and ensure tenant charges are correctly applied.
- Prepare VAT returns and support year-end audit requirements.
- Liaise with Property Managers, clients, tenants and auditors to resolve financial queries. Responding to financial queries from clients and leaseholders
- Maintain accurate client account records using property accounting software. Preparing and managing budgets, forecasts and service charge demands
- Assist with process improvements and support the wider finance team when required. Supporting new client onboarding and system set-up

EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS
Accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, AAT), part-qualified or qualified by experience
Strong experience in a portfolio or service charge accounting role
Advanced Excel and Sage skills
Experience preparing complex financial reports, budgets and forecasts
Familiarity with property and additional accounting systems (e.g. )
