The Clinical Lead for Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) will provide clinical leadership, professional oversight and strategic direction for the delivery of high-quality Positive Behaviour Support across the organisation.
The postholder will ensure that people with learning disabilities, autism, complex needs and behaviours of concern receive person-centred, evidence-based support that improves quality of life, promotes independence and reduces reliance on restrictive practices.
The Clinical Lead will provide expert consultation, supervision and guidance to PBS practitioners, operational teams and senior leaders. They will oversee the quality of functional assessment, behavioural formulation, Behaviour Support Plans and associated clinical interventions, ensuring that practice is ethical, evidence-based, trauma-informed and consistent with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and professional standards.
A key element of the role is developing organisational capability in PBS through clinical governance, workforce development, coaching, data analysis and continuous quality improvement.
Responsibilities:
Clinical leadership and governance
Lead on implementation of Positive Behaviour Support
Provide leadership on the organisations approach to Reducing Restrictive Practice
Clinical supervision and workforce development for PBS practitioners.
Assessments and complex case consultation.
Direct liaison with Quality assurance manager to ensure compliance.
Direct liaison with the senior leadership team to manage safeguarding and risk management.
Essential Qualifications and Knowledge
- Relevant professional qualification or degree in psychology, behaviour analysis, nursing, occupational therapy, social work, education or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge and practical application of Positive Behaviour Support, functional behavioural assessment and Behaviour Support Planning.
- Understanding of learning disabilities, autism, complex needs and behaviours of concern.
- Knowledge of restrictive-practice reduction, safeguarding, risk management, mental capacity and human-rights-based practice.
- Understanding of relevant UK health and social care legislation, regulation and professional standards.
Essential Experience
- Significant experience supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, complex needs and/or behaviours of concern.
- Experience developing and overseeing functional assessments and Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
- Experience managing complex cases and working within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience providing clinical supervision, coaching or professional leadership.
- Experience using behavioural and incident data to improve outcomes and reduce restrictive practices.
- Experience contributing to training, clinical governance and quality improvement.
