The Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Import Export Clerk to manage international shipments involving both containerised cargo and bulk vessels. Working as part of a busy logistics team, you will coordinate global shipments from origin to destination, ensuring compliance, efficiency and excellent customer service throughout.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with overseas suppliers, customers and logistics partners to arrange shipments and collections.
- Coordinate freight movements with carriers, shipping lines and hauliers.
- Prepare and process shipping documentation including Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, packing lists and customs declarations.
- Manage import and export procedures and customs clearance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with UK, EU and international shipping regulations.
- Monitor shipment progress and provide regular updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Negotiate freight rates and services with carriers and suppliers.
- Resolve issues relating to delays, damages or cargo losses.
- Prepare quotations and provide cost-effective logistics solutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
- Maintain accurate records and update ERP and logistics systems.
What We're Looking ForEssential
- Previous experience in freight forwarding, shipping, import/export or customs clearance.
- Strong knowledge of international shipping documentation and procedures.
- Familiarity with customs requirements and compliance regulations.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and customer service abilities.
- Experience using ERP systems such as Sage, Microsoft Dynamics or similar.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments and work effectively under pressure.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Incoterms and international trade compliance.
- Experience handling container and bulk vessel shipments.
- Professional qualifications such as IATA, FIATA or CILT.
- Commercial awareness and negotiation skills.

Working Arrangements
This is an office-based role located between Ipswich and Leiston, with occasional visits to ports, warehouses and customer sites when required. Flexibility outside normal office hours may occasionally be needed to meet shipment schedules.

Pay: £30,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
