Job Purpose
To provide a professional waste management service at a client site, ensuring all waste streams are collected, segregated, stored, and prepared for disposal in accordance with company procedures, environmental legislation, and site safety requirements. The role involves close liaison with the client management team and contractors to maintain a safe, clean, and compliant working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Removal, movement, and emptying of various waste containers including:
- General waste
- Dry mixed recyclables
- Cardboard
- Other designated waste streams
- Transporting waste safely to the correct on-site disposal or storage areas ready for external collection.
- Collection, handling, and secure storage of confidential waste using compactor bins and other approved containment methods.
- Ensuring waste segregation procedures are followed at all times to maximise recycling and maintain site compliance.
- Loading pallets and materials onto lorries using a forklift truck (valid forklift licence required).
- Liaising professionally with the client management team regarding operational requirements, collections, and site issues.
- Working alongside other tradespeople and contractors on site in a cooperative and safe manner.
- Arranging and ordering skips for site requirements in line with operational needs.
- Escorting skip drivers and other authorised visitors to and from designated site areas in accordance with site security procedures.
- Maintaining cleanliness and housekeeping standards within waste storage and operational areas.
- Completing any required records, checks, and operational documentation accurately.
- Reporting hazards, incidents, damaged equipment, or non-compliance issues promptly to management.
- Following all company and client health & safety procedures, environmental policies, and safe systems of work.
Requirements & Skills
Essential
- Previous experience in a waste management, industrial, warehouse, or site operative role.
- Valid forklift truck licence/certification - RTITB/NPORS
- Good understanding of health & safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work.
Desirable
- Experience working on client or industrial sites.
- Knowledge of waste segregation and recycling practices.
- Experience operating compactors or waste handling equipment.
Additional Requirements
- The successful candidate will be required to comply with regular drug and alcohol testing in line with client site policies.
- PPE must be worn at all times as required by site regulations.
- Flexibility may be required to meet operational demands.
Pay: £13.45 per hour
