In this wide-ranging apprenticeship, you will lean to act as support in the manufacture of new tooling and the repair / renovation of old tools, working to high degree of accuracy and understand engineering drawings and to work as a member of a team.

Tasks & training details
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- To support manufacture of new tools.
- To assist in repair/renovation of old tools.
- To have the ability to handle various tasks simultaneously and be able to adapt to changing priorities and urgencies as they arise.
- To plan jobs through various stages of manufacture deciding the correct machinery and processes to be used in order to achieve the stated accuracy and quality.
- To operate machines and carry out all other activities in a safe and responsible manner and maintain a clean and tidy environment within the department.
- To achieve tasks within the set time in order to meet departmental targets.
- To assist in the training of other toolmakers, new employees and apprentices.
- To carry out any other reasonable tasks as may be requested from time to time by the Tooling Manager or the Engineering Manager.
- To ensure that all tooling related activities are carried out in accordance with the appropriate company procedures.
- To observe Health and Safety regulations and Government legislation.

Skills
Good hand skills – practical skills, ability to understand and communicate technical information and work in a team. Mechanical engineers are, above all else, problem solvers. They use maths and analytical abilities to spot problems and resolve them.
Qualifications: Essential
5 x GCSE at Grade 4/5 (C) and above including English and maths. Science and ICT an advantage.
Qualifications: Desirable
Science and ICT.
Training to be provided:
On completion of the apprenticeship, you will have achieved the following qualifications;
- EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge) Level: 3
- ST1305 Machining Technician Standard Level 3
The final apprenticeship completion certificate will be issued on achievement of the above qualification and successful completion of end point assessment.

Creative – engineering is a field of innovation. Mechanical engineers develop new equipment and products used by customers to optimize production or improve their work processes.

As with all apprenticeships, this requires a long-term commitment – there will be assignments and logbook entries to complete. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a top company, whilst you work towards nationally recognised qualifications.
