Pub Supervisor – The King’s Head, Guildford Job Overview
The King’s Head is looking for a confident, reliable and friendly Pub Supervisor to join our team in Guildford.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys hospitality and is ready to take responsibility for running shifts and supporting the management team with the day-to-day operation of the pub.
As a Supervisor, you’ll lead from the front. You’ll still be serving behind the bar and looking after customers, while also making sure the team knows what they’re doing, jobs are being completed, standards are maintained and the pub runs smoothly throughout the shift.
We’re looking for someone who can stay calm when it gets busy, make sensible decisions and create a positive working environment for the rest of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the team during shifts, making sure everyone understands their responsibilities and has the support they need.
- Provide friendly, efficient customer service and set a strong example for the rest of the team.
- Open and close the pub when required, following the correct opening and closing procedures.
- Delegate daily jobs and make sure cleaning, restocking and other shift tasks are completed properly.
- Manage busy services and adjust the team where necessary to keep the bar running efficiently.
- Deal confidently and professionally with customer queries, complaints and difficult situations.
- Support new starters with their training and help less experienced members of the team develop their confidence.
- Ensure licensing requirements are followed, including responsible alcohol service, age verification and the appropriate management of under-18s.
- Help maintain a safe environment for customers and staff by following health & safety, fire safety and other pub procedures.
- Monitor cleanliness and presentation across the bar, customer areas, toilets and outside areas throughout the shift.
- Keep the bar stocked during service and communicate stock shortages or problems to management.
- Assist with basic cellar duties, including changing kegs, checking products and keeping cellar and dispense areas organised.
- Help maintain beer quality by following correct cellar and bar procedures.
- Handle payments responsibly and follow till, cash-handling and end-of-shift procedures.
- Respond appropriately to operational problems during a shift and escalate maintenance, equipment or safety issues to management where necessary.
- Communicate clearly with the kitchen and wider team to help food and drink service run smoothly.
- Complete shift handovers so the next Supervisor or Manager is aware of any issues, shortages or outstanding jobs.
- Support the management team with maintaining the high standards expected at The King’s Head.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience working in a pub, bar, restaurant or similar hospitality environment.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred, although we would consider a strong and experienced bartender who is ready to take the next step.
- Confident leading a team and taking responsibility for a shift.
- Friendly and approachable with strong customer service skills.
- Able to communicate clearly with both customers and colleagues.
- Reliable, organised and comfortable working without constant supervision.
- Able to remain calm and make sensible decisions during busy periods.
- Good attention to detail when it comes to cleanliness, presentation and service standards.
- Willing to get stuck in and work alongside the team rather than simply delegate.
- Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
The Role
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their hospitality management experience while taking on greater responsibility within a busy pub.
At The King’s Head, our Supervisors are an important link between the bar team and management. We want someone who can be trusted to run a strong shift, look after the team and our customers, and help keep the pub operating to a consistently high standard.
