Job Description: Health & Social Care Tutor/Assessor (Levels 2, 3 & 5)
Job Purpose
The Health & Social Care Tutor/Assessor is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Health and Social Care apprenticeship standards at Levels 2, 3 and 5.
Working closely with apprentices, employers and colleagues, the postholder will support learners in developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become competent and compassionate health and social care professionals. The successful candidate will combine recent occupational experience with outstanding coaching and teaching practice to prepare apprentices for successful End Point Assessment (EPA) and sustained career progression. Regular travel to employer and learner sites is compulsory and forms an essential part of the role.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching, Learning & Assessment
The postholder will deliver engaging, high-quality learning experiences that develop apprentices' occupational competence and support achievement across Health and Social Care apprenticeship standards at Levels 2, 3 and 5.
Responsibilities include:
- Planning, delivering and reviewing teaching, learning and assessment that meets the requirements of apprenticeship standards and awarding organisations.
- Supporting apprentices to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required within their occupational role.
- Delivering engaging learning using current health and social care practice, real workplace scenarios and a range of teaching methodologies.
- Assessing learner progress through a variety of assessment methods and providing timely, developmental feedback.
- Preparing apprentices for successful End Point Assessment through effective coaching, professional discussions and project support.
- Embedding digital skills, professional behaviours, safeguarding, duty of care, British Values and person-centred practice throughout the learner journey.
Curriculum Delivery
Deliver curriculum that reflects current health and social care practice and enables apprentices to apply learning confidently and safely within the workplace.
This includes developing learners' understanding and application of:
- Person-centred care, dignity, choice, independence and the promotion of individual wellbeing.
- Safeguarding adults and children, duty of care, professional boundaries and safe working practices.
- Communication, record keeping, information governance, confidentiality and data protection in care settings.
- Health and safety, infection prevention and control, medication awareness and risk management.
- Leadership, supervision, team working, reflective practice, service improvement and regulatory expectations appropriate to Levels 2, 3 and 5.
The postholder will continually review and update curriculum content to reflect changes in legislation, regulation, employer requirements, sector practice and apprenticeship standards.
Learner Progress & Support
The Tutor/Assessor will manage an agreed caseload of apprentices across Levels 2, 3 and 5, providing high-quality support throughout their apprenticeship journey.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring learner progress and maintaining high levels of engagement.
- Conducting regular progress reviews with apprentices and employers, including face-to-face visits where required.
- Setting meaningful SMART targets that support timely achievement.
- Identifying barriers to learning and implementing appropriate support strategies.
- Promoting independent learning, resilience, professional confidence and progression within the health and social care sector.
Employer Engagement
Develop positive partnerships with employers to ensure apprenticeship delivery reflects current health and social care practice, regulatory requirements and organisational needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Building effective relationships with employers, workplace mentors, managers and care professionals.
- Supporting employers to identify suitable workplace activities, observations, projects and learning opportunities.
- Providing advice on apprenticeship requirements, workplace evidence, off-the-job training and learner development.
- Working collaboratively to ensure apprentices develop occupational competence, professional behaviours and safe practice within their role.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Support OTM Apprenticeships Limited's commitment to outstanding quality and continuous improvement by:
- Maintaining accurate learner records and documentation.
- Ensuring delivery complies funding rules and apprenticeship requirements.
- Participating in internal quality assurance, standardisation and curriculum development activities.
- Supporting audit readiness and contributing to continuous quality improvement.
- Maintaining awareness of Ofsted expectations, CQC-related sector requirements and best practice in apprenticeship delivery.
Safeguarding, Prevent & Equality
The postholder will:
- Promote safeguarding, learner welfare and the welfare of children and vulnerable adults at all times.
- Embed Prevent Duty, British Values and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion throughout delivery.
- Maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
- Report safeguarding concerns promptly in accordance with organisational procedures.
- Complete all mandatory safeguarding, Prevent and relevant health and social care training.
Key Performance Indicators
Performance within the role will be measured through:
- Learner retention and timely achievement.
- End Point Assessment success rates.
- Learner and employer satisfaction.
- Quality of teaching, learning and assessment.
- Compliance with funding and quality requirements.
- Contribution to curriculum development, sector currency and continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants will possess:
- A recognised teaching qualification (Level 3 Award in Education and Training or above), or a willingness to achieve.
- A recognised assessor qualification (CAVA, A1 or equivalent), or a willingness to achieve.
- A relevant health and social care qualification at Level 3 or above, with a Level 5 qualification or equivalent leadership and management experience desirable for Level 5 delivery.
Essential Occupational Experience
Applicants must demonstrate substantial, recent occupational experience within health and/or social care settings, with competence relevant to the standards and levels delivered.
This may include experience working as a:
- Adult Care Worker / Care Assistant
- Lead Adult Care Worker / Senior Care Worker
- Healthcare Support Worker
- Senior Healthcare Support Worker
- Team Leader or Supervisor in a care setting
- Deputy Manager or Registered Manager
- Care Coordinator
- Support Worker in community or residential care
- Health and Social Care Practitioner
- Quality, Compliance or Service Improvement Lead within care
Applicants should be able to demonstrate practical experience of person-centred care, safeguarding, risk management, communication, record keeping, partnership working, supervision and supporting quality improvement within health and social care services.
Recent occupational competence within health and social care is considered essential. The postholder must also be willing and able to travel regularly to employer and learner sites; travel is compulsory.

Desirable
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience delivering apprenticeship standards.
- Knowledge of End Point Assessment requirements.
- Experience delivering Health and Social Care qualifications or apprenticeship standards at Levels 2, 3 and/or 5.
- Experience of leadership, management, quality assurance or service improvement within a health or social care setting.
- Membership of a relevant professional body or professional register, where applicable.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for compulsory travel to employer and learner sites.
