About the role
Join our Practice Support Team as a Legal Officer for Governance
We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Governance Officer to join our in-house Legal Services team to take a leading role in supporting the Monitoring Officer in the discharge of North Northamptonshire Council’s statutory governance functions, with particular responsibility for standards matters and the administration of complaints under the Members’ Code of Conduct, ensuring compliance with legislation, the Council’s Constitution, and the promotion of high standards of ethical governance.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of governance, alongside excellent communication and case management skills. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality services, driving continuous improvement, and making a positive impact on residents and communities.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for a specialist in Governance to join our in-house legal team. The role will require you to undertake a caseload of work including:

Manage Member Code of Conduct complaints from receipt through to resolution.

Draft clear, impartial and legally accurate governance and standards documentation.

Liaise with stakeholders to gather information and progress cases within timescales.

Support the Monitoring Officer with constitutional, governance and standards processes.

Improve governance workflows, templates and case management procedures.

Assist with wider standards and governance matters, including elections, audits and investigations.
About you
