Are you looking to start or develop a career in accountancy and finance?
Whether you are leaving college, graduating from university, returning to work, or bringing previous experience from a finance, administration, customer service or business support role, we would love to hear from you.
You do not need to know everything on your first day. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with numbers, has a keen eye for detail and is committed to providing excellent customer service. You will be organised, willing to learn and comfortable communicating with colleagues, customers and external organisations.
You should be confident using IT, including Microsoft Office, and interested in developing your knowledge of financial systems and accounting processes. Most importantly, you will share our commitment to valuing people, acting with honesty and integrity, being open, and continually looking for ways to improve.
What's the role all about?
As a Finance Advisor, you will be part of the Council's Accountancy Service, supporting a wide range of financial, administrative and business activities.
With guidance, training and support from experienced colleagues, you will help process financial transactions, maintain accurate records, produce financial information and respond to customer queries. This is an opportunity to gain practical experience across different areas of local government finance while developing your accountancy knowledge and professional skills.
What might your day look like?
Your work will be varied and may include:
-
Processing invoices, journals and budget transfers.
- Helping with bank reconciliations, income allocation and VAT records.
- Responding to queries from customers, suppliers and colleagues.
- Preparing financial information and reports.
- Checking information for accuracy and maintaining clear financial records.
- Working with colleagues across the Council to meet important deadlines.
You will not be expected to do everything independently from day one. We will support you to build your knowledge, confidence and responsibilities as you develop in the role.
Who are we looking for?
We are interested in your potential as well as your previous experience.
You will need:
-
Confidence working with numbers and financial information.
- Good attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- The ability to organise your work and meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office or similar applications.
- A willingness to learn new systems and processes.
- An interest in developing your understanding of accountancy, financial procedures and VAT.
Previous experience of financial systems, computerised ledgers or accounting work would be helpful, but it is not essential if you can demonstrate the ability and enthusiasm to learn.
