London Youth Conservatoire is one of the largest and most successful non-selective music schools in London with over 400 students and 36 teachers. The School offers a comprehensive music education from beginner to Grade 8 and beyond with individual instrumental lessons; musicianship and theory classes; and several orchestras, ensembles, jazz groups and choirs. We welcome students aged 4 to 18 and adults.
As a registered charity, London Youth Conservatoire also aims to have a positive impact on the lives of others in our community. Its Impact Programme has three areas of focus:
· Financial Support: a programme of bursaries, scholarships, and financial support.
· Overture: free instrument workshops and performances in primary schools in the borough.
· Community Events takes live music out into the community.
Position:
London Youth Conservatoire is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic classical guitar teacher from Saturday 5 September 2026 onwards.
The planned workload is 6 hours of lessons between 9.30am and 5pm:
- 5h30 of 1-to-1 classical guitar lessons
- 30 minutes teaching guitar to small groups on our Prelude course (instrument discovery course for beginners)
Please note the hours may still increase as registrations are ongoing.
Requirements:
- A relevant music degree, ideally gained at a music conservatoire (or similar)
- A passion for pedagogy, with an ability to inspire and motivate the students
- Experience of teaching children age 5+ and adults alike
- Ability to teach classical guitar from beginner to diploma level
- Strong track record in preparing students for grade exams (ABRSM/Trinity)
- Good professional performing experience
- Energetic, punctual, organised, and able to work as part of a team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience in the Kodály approach, or willingness to learn in order to incorporate some elements in your teaching
- Relevant safeguarding training
Days:
Saturdays, during term time only, until 3rd July 2027. Term dates available on our website.
Employment type:
Self-employed position (34 weeks service contract, renewable).

Service fee:
The rate for 1-1 lessons is £42.25/hour
The rate for Prelude lessons is £43.25/hour
