Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on QA Engineer who excels in software testing and test automation to join our Technology team. You will build automated tests using Playwright, own our regression testing approach and test the React, ASP.NET and API-based applications used across Fleet Assist.This role plays a key part in improving the quality and reliability of our software. Working closely with software engineers, business analysts and operational stakeholders, you will identify risks early, challenge requirements, provide clear evidence of release readiness and help make quality a shared responsibility throughout the development lifecycle.Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain automated end-to-end tests using Playwright and TypeScript or JavaScript for our React front ends and ASP.NET applications.
- Own and continually improve the manual and automated regression test suite, including clearly defined smoke, core, extended and full regression packs based on business risk.
- Translate user stories, requirements and acceptance criteria into reusable test scenarios covering positive, negative, boundary and exception paths.
- Plan and execute testing for scheduled releases, communicate quality and risk clearly, and provide evidence to support release and go/no-go decisions.
- Perform exploratory testing to uncover usability issues, unexpected behaviour, data problems and defects that scripted checks may miss.
- Test APIs and third-party integrations, including requests, responses, authentication, error handling and end-to-end data flow.
- Use SQL to validate data changes, investigate defects and confirm application behaviour against the underlying database.
- Create clear, reproducible defect reports with appropriate evidence, severity and business impact, then work with developers through investigation, retesting and closure.
- Integrate automated tests into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and maintain useful, visible and actionable test reporting.
- Review escaped defects, recurring failures and root causes to identify gaps in coverage and improve requirements, development and release processes.
- Work closely with developers, business analysts and operational teams to understand real user journeys and build quality in from the start.
Required Skills and Experience
- Commercial experience testing web applications in a QA Engineer, Test Analyst, Software Test Engineer or similar role.
- Practical experience creating and maintaining automated browser tests using Playwright. Strong experience with Cypress, Selenium or a comparable framework may also be considered.
- Good working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript, with the ability to write readable and maintainable automated tests using appropriate fixtures, selectors and test data.
- Experience testing modern front-end applications, including React, alongside server-side applications or APIs built using ASP.NET/C# or similar technologies.
- A strong understanding of functional, regression, integration, exploratory and end-to-end testing techniques.
- Experience testing REST APIs using tools such as Postman, Swagger or automated API tests.
- Working SQL knowledge for validating data and investigating application behaviour.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, including running automated tests within CI/CD pipelines.
- The judgement to prioritise testing according to customer impact, technical risk and the scope of a change.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain defects and release risk to technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Strong organisation and time management, with the ability to take ownership of testing across multiple changes and releases.
- A proactive, methodical and curious approach, with the confidence to challenge requirements constructively and investigate complex or intermittent issues.
- IT Skills – Proficiency in Office 365 programs Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisation and time management.
- Knowledge of the automotive or fleet industry would be beneficial.
