An exciting opportunity has arisen at Oaklands College for a passionate and creative Games Design Lecturer to help shape the future of aspiring games professionals. This part-time role offers the opportunity to work with talented and motivated learners, delivering engaging and industry-relevant teaching that develops both their technical expertise and creative potential.
You will play a key role in preparing students for careers within the games industry by introducing core games design principles, development pipelines, game mechanics, immersive gameplay experiences, narrative design, and winning and losing conditions. Through inspiring teaching and vocationally focused assignment briefs, you will challenge learners to achieve excellence and develop the skills required for progression into higher education or employment.
As a Games Design Lecturer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning to Year 1 and Year 2 Games Design students, ensuring they are supported to achieve their full potential.
You will act as a personal tutor, providing guidance, encouragement, and pastoral support throughout each learner’s journey. By planning, delivering, tracking, and assessing assignments, you will monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback that promotes continuous improvement and achievement.
Working closely with students, you will help develop their understanding of games design concepts and industry-standard production processes while providing support with specialist software and technical troubleshooting when required.
Building positive relationships with parents and carers will form an important aspect of the role, including contributing to reports, attending parents’ evenings, and communicating learner progress effectively.
As part of the wider Media team, you will collaborate with colleagues to enhance the student experience and contribute to curriculum development. You will also organise enrichment opportunities, including educational visits and industry-related trips such as EGX London, helping learners gain valuable insight into the games sector.
In addition, you will liaise with awarding organisations and external moderators to ensure assessment and quality assurance processes are maintained to the highest standards.
